Night feed necessary?

My baby boy is 15 weeks old and is sleeping brilliantly, goes down between 7 and 8 and then wakes around 4ish then back down until half 7. He's been doing this for over a month now and initially he would wake up, fuss for a bit and ultimately end up crying if we weren't fast enough to feed him (my husband feeds him breast milk in a bottle sometimes to help me sleep and he'll only take it warm). The past week baby is stirring and waking at the same time but never cries or demands food and if i pop dummy back in whilst my husband is warming the bottle he falls back asleep and we have to wake him or do a sleep feed. My question is, do we still need to feed him in the night or should we pop dummy back in and see if he'll sleep through? Is he old enough to go 12 hours without a feed? We can't work out if he is waking out of habit.

This is my situation! The only difference is he wakes around 3ish. No particular advice, but I did try just popping his dummy in this morning and walking away, and he went back to sleep for another hour n half. I was going to try it again when he woke but felt bad in case he was hungry so caved and fed him 🤔x

My baby was like that. When I was getting the bottle ready he was falling sleep with the dummy so after a couple of nights I stopped the feeds. He wakes up like an hour before he used to and I give him the bottle then.

I left mine, popped dummy in and he’s been fine! Sleeps 10.30ish til 6ish without food x

So it’s quite common for a baby to sleep thru the night. My LO goes to sleep around 8, we wake her at 11 to change her and try and do a feed and often she won’t take it. She then sleeps through until 6 or 7 with no feed. I do her a feed fast then when she wakes and she’s great, has been for a month. This is the start of a routine and she thriving on it!

My boy is like this every now and again, sometimes he’ll want a feed and other times he’ll go back to sleep. It’s hit and miss here 🙃 But yes fine with no feed for that amount of time!

If he falls back asleep as soon as you put the dummy in then I wouldn’t wake.

@Tanya this is me, the feeling of guilt that we're 'punishing' him for not crying by not feeding was making me cave x

@Caro this is good to know!

Thanks all! We'll try dropping the feed tonight and see how we go 🤞🏻 x

Rhis was exactly the same as my little girl, i gave up on the bottle and just pop herdummy in now (sometimes i need to put it bk in a few times coz it falls out when shes falls asleep but stopping her bottle hasnt bothered her)x

I do manage it based on whether she’s fed well during the day too, if she’s had 4 or 5 really good feeds in the day then she’s topped up enough to get her through, if she hasn’t then I persevere more on the night feed so she doesn’t wake, better for her and better for us!

@Caro tried this last night and he slept through! Exactly as you said, he woke at half 6 instead of half 7 for his feed. Perfect 😁

@Alex welcome to the sleep less but better moment. Cherish it, it won't last long... the 4 months sleep regression is round the corner... 😅

@Caro 😂
