Breathing

Hi I’m back asking questions that’s probably nothing to worry about 😂 anyone else since becoming a mam their anxiety has gone to 0- 100!! Is this normal breathing? He obviously is falling asleep - his nose doesn’t seem blocked - he doesn’t have a cold etc.

Just sounds like nasal congestion to me, otherwise normal. The congestion can be right into the sinuses so not always just visible snot 😄 Saline spray has worked wonders for my baby

thank you. I just bought some of that the other day so will give it a try x

Saline drops get small syringe few drops in each nostril. Using humidifier at night also helps

Yeah it's because he's sucking on plastic, he'd breathe smoother without the dummy but he sounds perfectly fine, maybe a little snotty. And its not called anxiety in this situation, it's "mum mode". Don't ignore it, it saved my sons life several times

Normal I have a million of these videos as was so paranoid but newborns are just noisy sleepers

To me it sounds like normal heavy breathing, my girl does it all the time when she’s falling asleep and she’s in the early stages of the sleep cycle. I wouldn’t necessarily use nose spray. I clear my baby’s nose every day with a manual aspirator, and she’d still sound like this, it was even worse when she was a newborn, happened during feeding too. I was worried too though so I asked my GP on the 6 weeks check up why she sounds so snotty, they said it’s normal for newborns, babies have very small nostrils so even a little bit of milk, reflux etc. can make them sound like they have a blocked nose.

My 18 day old sounds so congested when sleeping!

I’ve honestly wondered about so many noises my little one makes especially when she’s sleeping etc, I asked my midwife about them all yesterday lol she said it’s normal for them to be noisy sleepers as their nasal passages and sinuses are so small right now it’s easy for milk and mucus to rest in it xx

Thank you everyone- you’ve all made me feel normal and calmer!! 😂

Do you have an aspirator? Try and suck some of the snot out using that, it helped my little girl as I didn’t like the idea of using saline drops so young. She still sometimes does it now though when she’s in a deep sleep x

Avatar

yeah I do, it’s the one you suck 😂 I’ll use that for now and order a better one xx

hope you are not mum shaming me for the dummy 🫣🫣🫣🫣🫣

absolutely not, my sincerest apologies for coming across that way - my son used one too until he got his 4th tooth around 10 months old. I mean that I recognize that a dummy can restrict breathing when the child has a snotty nose

Sounds completely normal little baby breaths... they sleep deeply... they could be having their first dreams and have periods of rapid breathing... if his breathing seems fine when hes awake im sure he is... new baby paranoia is always a thing new mom or not... but i remember freaking about this with my 1st son too and it was nothing... always talk to doc just to give yourself peace of mind...

Respiratory specialist- sounds like plastic breathing to me

Avatar

It sounds totally normal to me, but when I get worried about my babies breathing because I am such an anxious mom to, I always takeoff his shirt to see if his chest goes in or not. Usually if their nostrils aren’t flaring and their chest isn’t going underneath their ribs, they’re okay

Avatar

could you explain a bit what this is please?

Avatar

it’s just air escaping (vibration against the plastic) just sounds like he’s having a really good suck on it.
