Anemia weight gain

I’ve always been low in iron, I’ve been on iron supplements since I was 16 and I’m now 30, Ive had so many iron infusions but nothing seems to work. It got a lot worse after having my second child in 2020, since then I’ve put on so much weight that I can’t lose, I’ve been doing everything to lose it but instead I’ve been gaining weight. I just weighed myself and I’ve put on more weight and I just want to fall apart, I don’t now what to do. My body doesn’t absorb the iron so my levels are so low that it’s causing issues with my thiroid and I the weight keeps piling on. I’ve spoken to my doctor but he won’t help me, he keeps telling me to continue with the supplements lol Has this happened to anyone else? How did you fix it?

Have you had any investigations as to why your body isn't absorbing iron? Among a few other symptoms I had anaemia on and off for years and it turned out I had coeliac disease so my body had stopped absorbing nutrients. Its possible to have it with literally no symptoms and its more common to have thyroid issues issues it. It may be worth pushing for a referal for extra testing as a lot lot GPs only pffer the test if you've got the normal bloating/stomach issues x

Nope no one, I’ve seen multiple doctors trying to get an answer but I’m always brushed off especially when I bring up my weight. It’s causing me to miss my periods as well which is worrying but they still don’t care. The most they will do is blood tests and then get me back in there to talk about my iron levels and that’s it. I literally just said this to my partner, that’s what I’ve been so sure it might be. I always get an upset stomach after eating and always have but the doctors have always said “it’s just anxiety” but the symptoms are getting worse as I get older which is making me believe it is celiac disease. I’m leaning towards seeing a naturopath and maybe getting some allergy testing done. Thank you for you response, that was super helpful 😊

Ask for anti TTG testing and don't cut out gluten (it'll be a false negs if you haven't got a good amount in your diet), if that's positive demand a gastro referal but I wouldn't blame you for demanding one anyway, I absolutely hate doctors dismissing legitimate symptoms as anxiety. Hope you're doing better soon x
