No… to be fair I don’t let them near my own face either! Bleh. I love my fur babies but they can leave the face alone. They have different bacteria than us and I don’t want us (or them) to get sick from it!

The cats yes, the dog no. We do let the dog near the baby in general but not get in his face, because he's a big dog who doesn't know his own strength and a herding breed so prone to nipping when he gets overexcited (he never has nipped at either of our kids and has learned to be very gentle with them, but better safe than sorry)

I don't like the dog around my son but I feel like my boyfriend is basically putting the dog before us because he refuses to have boundaries with his dog and it's driving me crazy

The dog should be around the baby some (of course safely and supervised.) Preventing it completely only prevents the dog from accepting the baby as a part of the family and learning how to interact properly with them. The baby becomes this weird forbidden thing they're confused and curious about which with no opportunity to learn can lead to someone getting hurt (even unintentionally.) But there absolutely should be boundaries and training in place. Even the sweetest, calmest dog in the world can react unexpectedly or get overexcited and accidentally hurt a baby. You need to have a very serious conversation with him about that

We only allow our dogs to sniff baby. We’re just being extra careful and training the dogs to always be gentle with her.
But as far as licking her face no we don’t allow that.

I let my dog be around my baby supervised. I let him lick his face but not excessively. I watch them to see when they’ve both had enough. Research shows babies that have dogs grow up to have better immune systems. Germs aren’t bad! Pathogens are.

You shouldn't let dogs lick anyone's face but you should definitely have most pets be supervised around the baby. Just like you don't want cats to lick the face or scratch a baby. All of those have a small chance of doing serious harm. However if you don't foster a good relationship between your pets and your children then your likely unintentionally fostering a bad one.
