Would I be entitled to universal credit when on unpaid leave from work?

I’m about to become a single mum, due to this I won’t be able to go to work until I have sorted out childcare. I think my work will let me take unpaid leave, but I can’t afford to not have anything coming in. So I was hoping universal credit would provide some support instead, otherwise I will just have to quit my current job and I don’t really want to do that.
