Car seat question

I can’t seem to find a straightforward answer… when are you planning to turn your child front facing in the car? My boy who will be 2 in December is on the higher end of the growth chart. We have a Britax click tight. I know rear facing is the safest but his poor legs are scrunched!

personally if it works for your family to turn at 2 then you’re safe to. however if you’re able to wait until he maxes out his rear facing car seat stats that is ideal as it gives more time for his vertebrae to fuse to avoid internal decapitation. potentially broken legs are better than internal decapitation. we personally have the graco extend2fit to add extra rear facing leg room if you’re ever in the market for a new car seat. we personally aren’t planning on turning our daughter at 2, hoping to make it to at least 3, 4 would be ideal for us. i do know some people who turned at 2 due to car seat sickness and such.

Scrunched legs aren't uncomfortable for kids, even though it's hard for us to believe. Have you ever seen the different positions they watch TV in? He's okay. My husband turned my oldest around at 3 1/2, before I was ready for it. I'm not in any hurry to turn this guy around. He's 32 lbs and 34 inches.

I have the graco extend2fit, I just had to extend the leg part for this reason. I plan to switch sometime after he turns 2, how long after is depending on how long I can keep the front seat all the way up

I just turned my son because he is in the height and weight limits to be turned around. Even though they say it’s not uncomfortable for them. He would gesture to his legs and knees and say it hurts. Since he’s been turned around there hasn’t been any issues and he’s fine to be in the car longer than 10 mins.

Thanks all! Super helpful!

From a CPST. Our 5 year old has been at 95th percentile her whole life and still rear facing. https://www.instagram.com/p/CKNcfldMYVf/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

I’m waiting until he hits the height or weight limit for our car seat.

@Jade hi jade. I would meet with a CPST or ask one in a post in the Facebook group below. There are likely adjustments that you can make. Your child’s spine and will not have the necessary protection in an accident. They can be severely injured or worst. Right now, internal decapitation is a risk. Not saying to shame. Your child’s body is just not ready to forward face at such a young age. I have a 5 year old still rf at 95% height. She’s perfectly fine and still in the limits. https://m.facebook.com/groups/CarSeatsForTheLittles/?ref=share&mibextid=S66gvF
