Baby holding one arm differently to the other

Hi all,

My 4.5 month old uses his arms differently. It's most noticeable during tummy time and when i hold him upright against my shoulder, and he has done it for as long as I can remember. He will always hold his right arm down by his side and slightly behind him.

I've attached a video that shows it briefly (he was getting upset so couldn't keep filming) but thats what he always does with his arm. He has never pushed up whilst on his tummy and I think this is part of the reason.

When playing he will reach for things with both arms but has a clear preference for his left (the other arm). He was born slightly pre-term but had a normal delivery with no intervention.

Has anyone else experienced this? What did you do and what caused it? I am considering taking him to a paediatric chiropractor, but not sure whether to go to a GP first? I am in the UK.

Thank you.

He’s just trying to get his mobility working my son was like that sometimes to. If your worried ask your doctor if this is ok.

I would think he’s just trying to figure it out, id just keep adjusting it in front thatll help with his tummy time and crawling efforts
My girl would always have one arm stuck under her lol

I would get it checked just in case as my friends baby was actually born with a dislocated shoulder! They noticed within the first week though as he was crying a lot and the midwife noticed it was lower

Just re the chiropractor, I spoke to mine last week about seeing my little girl (16 months) and she said that specialist paediatric chiropractors (especially ones that’ll see a baby so young!) are few and far between in the uk- she said the nearest she knows of is Oxford 😅 x
