Autistic?

Before I start I don’t care if she’s autistic I’m just preparing. Has anyone else noticed autistic traits in their child at this young age? I have thought it for a while now but everyone says it’s too young to tell. Has anyone got an autistic child who showed traits this young? I will speak to my health visitor when I see her but I’m just curious x

Hey! This is very young and everyone on this post will probably just tell you to wait and see and not to worry too early. I agree to a point BUT..
I have a 5 year old little boy with ASD too and hand on heart I had inklings very early on and people dismissed me at the time. I definitely don’t see the same trait in my second little one.
You are mumma and your gut feeling goes a long way! I would just continue to monitor and maybe speak to HV at 1 year check? Xx

What traits have you noticed if you don't mind me asking x

Agree with - we have it in our family so I’m probably extra worried in comparison to most. Mine has a weird fixation on some objects (like a specific doorknob in the house, his first smiles were at a fan that wasn’t even on). He definitely flaps his arms but doesn’t clap or wave. Otherwise he’s super smiley and chatty and mobile at home, but in baby classes and elsewhere in public he just stares around open mouthed the whole time.

Research does show that it’s just too early to tell right now and these specific things can all be explained as normal baby behavior, but yeah to an extent you have to trust your gut as well.

so my first little one always seemed to be staring into the distance. He didn’t smile when I smiled at him but would smile at stationary objects like random things such as ornaments or clothes hung up and things! He barely babbled and blew raspberries CONSTANTLY. He was a nightmare to wean as he didn’t like hardly any textures or lumps and would often stare into space and go vacant no matter what was going on around him. He was a late mover/crawler too xx

It's too young for a diagnosis and to be certain but I don't think it's ever to early to be noting behaviours and just being generate aware of what may or may not be a sign. My eldest nephew has ASD and we're pretty certain my youngest niece does too, my sister referred her at 2, she's 4 next month and has still yet to be seen properly due to the maisve wait lists so honestly I would raise any concerns you have now just in case so that then if it is ASD you're more likely to get the extra support in place for things like school early 🤍
