Can a woman with a cervical polyp try waterbirth? Do you know anybody with such condition who has delivered in a birthing pool?

I can’t see why not, but perhaps as a professional, your GP or midwife.

I have a polyp and water birth was my plan. I only wasn’t allowed to go in the water in the end cause my waters had broke 😊

@Meghan could you tell me more about the reason why broken waters are an obstacle for waterbirth?

Yes, you can.

once your waters break. Your at more risk of infection, so they won’t let you go in the water if they break beforehand. But this is regardless of the polyp. 😊

thanks for clarifying, that's an interesting nuance

i had no idea about it until my water break and the hospital told me ☹️

I had a polyp before getting pregnant with my little girl! I had surgery to get it removed in April and in end of June I got pregnant so I’m not too sure x

My waters broke and I was able to deliver in the pool x

that’s odd, as I’ve had water birth, and by the time we’ve got to the hospital, my water was pretty much gone. I can’t see where is the risk for infection, it’s a hospital, supposed to be the most sterile place.

how strange! My waters broke at home and when I got to the hospital, I said I had a planned water birth and they told me I couldn’t do it because my waters had broke already 🥴

Unless they've been broken for over 24 hours, you should still be able to go in the pool.

no it was literally a few hours. But it wasn’t even like they said oh we recommend you not to go in the pool. They just straight out said I couldn’t go in. How annoying ! I actually said at the time that I didn’t know about that and no one (midwife) had told me. 😔

because it’s not true. I’d complain, do you have a local group or something? Check out ‘National Maternity Voices’. I’ve just had a meeting with a representative (I’m in Hastings), as I was very unhappy with a few things about my post-natal care. I bet you it was something to do with laziness, or getting you out of there as soon as possible… in our hospital the water birth suit is very lovely, but the pool is huge with and tiny tap…it takes 2 hrs to fill it up! Some women don’t even make it and give birth before they could go in.

yeah I’m going to look into it thank you. Really frustrating isn’t it.

hoping this is my story! I have a consultation for my polyp removal surgery on Thursday. Praying I get pregnant shortly after
