My 3 month old spits up so much and my doctor just keeps saying it’s normal not to worry but we go through so many outfits a day. I’ve waited as long as an hour to do tummy time and she still threw up what looked like half the bottle. I feel bad and to me it doesn’t seem “normal”. We tried oatmeal in the bottle to thicken it and she likes it but still spitting up.
We also tried Pepcid, mylicon and gripe water.
Currently use Enfamil gentlease. She didn’t like Similac. Any advice is appreciated just a first time mom wanting to help my baby!

Oatmeal is not recommended anymore. New studies show the risk outweighs the potential benefit. There’s a product called gelmix that is a thickening agent safe for use in bottles.
Keep in mind what looks like half a bottle is usually 1/2 oz at most. Is baby a happy spitter? Meaning they aren’t crying all the time they just spit up randomly and go about their day? If so then there’s nothing to worry about. They will outgrow it.
Are there any other symptoms? Mucousy stools? Blood in stool? Maybe try a goat milk based formula.

yes she smiles when she spits up and doesn’t phase her at all. No other symptoms which is why I believe our Pediatrician isn’t worried because her pees and poops are normal and she’s gaining weight.

The exact same thing happened to my son, and I was worried. He was also on that same formula as well. Our doctor recommended the enfamil AR, which so far he's been doing good, he doesn't spit up as much. I did notice, however, that when I go up an oz, he spits up more. Our doctor said that as long as he's not losing weight, peeing, and pooping he's fine. Which he's been gaining at a normal rate. I also did notice his pooped changed when we switched, which seemed to be better than before. Apparently, he's just being a "piggy."

we tried Enfamil AR and didn’t see a change with her finishing 12.4 oz container. How long was it until you saw a difference ?

@Brittney, we gave it a week to a week and a half. I was told always that it could be the bottle as well or the nipple of the bottle. Another thing is, is she latching on? I know sometimes that can be a problem due to taking in too much air.

Have you tried a probiotic? That might help.

I have not. Any recommendations?

My little girlie was on gentle ease and was spitting up a ton with the Dr browns bottles. Our ped said to switch her to Enfamil AR (which is added rice but also for acid reflux) and it helped a ton. We also changed her bottle and upped the nipple side because of it being thicker. She now uses the playtex bottles and a medium or fast flow nipple. If we use the Dr browns she spits up a good bit more than when we use the playtex! So maybe try changing her bottles? But give it about a week or so to see if there’s a change after switching formulas!
