Question for the mommies

So I need advice from the mommy’s, I’ve gained 30lbs in 6 months an my doctor says I’m overweight because u should only gain about 25 lbs throughout the entire 9 months of pregnancy; my baby is only 16.3cm an I’m 28 weeks, my son not growing as much as he should but I’m gaining lots of weight, I still have 3 months left till he comes an I’m not trying to overthink or worry myself because he actually is healthy an very active, even his heartbeat his strong an I just don’t understand how I’m growing so much an he’s not growing that much. I take my prenatals an Enoxaparin (blood thinner) shots like I should so should I be worried ? This is my first time being able to carry so far without miscarriages & I’m just thinking about it a lot.

girl, i gained 60+ pounds this pregnancy. i weighed 105, and am now up to 168. my doctor has said the same to me every visit. i’ve watched what i’ve eaten, i’ve been active my whole pregnancy, sometimes there’s nothing we can do about it!! and that’s OKAY! our body is doing something amazing. as long as you and baby are safe and healthy that’s all that matters. don’t stress yourself out <3 every woman is different, some just gain more weight than others despite their diet/activity status.

Some women gain a lot of weight while pregnant, and if you physically feel good, to hell with that 25lbs gain bullshit. I gained almost 50lbs with my first and only 18lbs with my second. Every pregnancy is different.

I am about 115-120 lbs I stay that weight but my pregnancy with my twins i gained a lot of weight I was all baby I had my two girls about 10 lbs between the two and my placenta was over 12 lbs and was huge for how small I was. And not even two weeks after my kids were born I went straight back to the weight I was before and yes I still have my baby belly, your body is most likely storing extra nutrients for your baby just in case you miss some or having extra nutrients for the start of when your baby comes for milk.

I gained like 30-40 it’s perfectly normal!!! I went back to my same size because most of it’s just fluids and everything the baby needs 💕💕💕don’t stress

I’m a dietician so tracked my food correctly and kept on top of everything, and I gained almost 30kg (around 60 pounds)
It was mainly water weight, and I dropped it all within a few weeks of giving birth with the rest coming off slowly.

My doctor was absolutely fine with it because both baby and I were healthy, had no underlying conditions and every test and scan came back perfectly.

Don’t worry about weight gain unless your GP is concerned about an actual issue (for example diabetes)
Just being ‘overweight’ is based on your BMI and pretty outdated when it comes to pregnancy advice.

Being pregnant our metabolism slows down a lot it’s a huge change our body is going through. I have also gained 60 pounds and I’m only 37 weeks rn !

It honestly just depends on the person, every woman is truly different. My mom gained like 65 lbs with me and I was only 6 lbs 7oz at birth. I was instructed to only gain 15 and I've gained 20 (37weeks) and my baby is measuring big. As long as you and baby are healthy you're doing perfect

I had to learn to just focus on my baby is healthy and I’m healthy. I’m normally very thin, slightly body dysmorphic. So I’m veryyyy hard on myself. I’m covered in stretch marks. I’ve never had a stretch mark in my life. And I’m 37 weeks and have gained 60lbs 🥹 lol. But I’m learning to accept it, and be grateful for my body for creating such a safe space for my baby boy. I know I’ll lose it, I know I’m gonna diet and work out once he’s here. My husband still thinks I’m beautiful and reminds me every day, that helps as well ❤️

I gained 45 pounds and my doctors never told me I was gaining too much.
I started at 112 and ended at 157
On my second pregnancy and can definitely see it happening again. Oh and my baby was full term and only 5.8 pounds. So it was me and some water weight. Stress a little less you sound perfectly fine to me!!

Your body is storing up to increase chance of survival for you and baby after birth. It's genetics kicking in - it'll likely drop off like water after. I wouldn't worry about my own weight, but do keep up monitoring baby. Sometimes growth slows (regardless of ur weight) for no reason but better to know about it 🫂

By the end I gained 35lbs total. And little one does most of their weight gain in the end. I had the cutest little bump then I hit the last tri and I was a mammoth. Starting weight was 175 end was 210.

My first I was 73lbs due to being severely anemic and end weight when I had her was 127. Dropped down to 82 after having her and pregnant again at 6 months I'm now up to 108

I hate that they use words like "overweight" when there is so much more to growing a baby than just the baby itself. During pregnancy, your blood volume doubles, you're growing a whole new organ (placenta) and you retain more fluids, all of which contribute to weight. I gained like 50 lbs during pregnancy and although I never saw a doctor (midwives only) they never threw around that word "over weight."

You're doing great! Keep doing what you're doing!

Whaaaaat I gained 60lbs with my first pregnancy and my Dr didn't say anything 😅 And with this past pregnancy I started super overweight and still ended up gaining 40lbs. My Dr said my weight gain was great! Which I was a little taken aback by, but still. She wasn't fussing as me for my weight or anything. Your dr sounds a little uptight. I'd personally seek out a more reasonable Dr because I am a bit sensetive about my weight. It's totally normal to gain more than the perfect world weight gain recommendation.

My daughters growth was slow, we found out at 33 weeks, I was induced at 37 weeks and she was born at 4lbs 12oz. We were never given an explanation as to why. I had to be consult led from 33 weeks but I only saw them once but had to have regular scans to check on her growth. I also gained so much weight when I was having.

I gained way more weight than I should have as well with my pregnancy and my son was not a big baby (3.4kg at birth). I think as long as you can move ok, your blood pressure is fine and you are not at risk for gestational diabetes you shouldn't worry too much about it.

Also don't worry about the baby's size at thia point too much. My son was 20th percentile at 28 weeks and they were concerned but then he grew in my third trimester and was born on 50th percentile. Babies grow at different rates

Avatar

I gained over 50lbs 😅 I lost 10lbs in 2 days purely in water 🤣

Thanks so much for all the advice guys, I was thinking when he was talking to me about it that literally everyone’s bodies are different, an my son is very healthy an active an everything he’s just a tad bit small but I keep hearing that he still has time to grow an everything so I feel so much more at ease, he isn’t due till January 1,2024. The doctor scared me a tad bit with that one. This is my first time being able to carry after 2 months, I had a miscarriage in 2019 & 2021 so to be able to be at 6 months an everything makes me so happy but that did worry me a tad about what my doctor was saying but thanks so much ladies I truly appreciate it!

he’s definitely uptight, he’s an older man. Very old school as well, but I’ve been thinking about switching doctors.

Avatar

you’re right, and honestly i wasn’t really a big baby myself when I was born I was small for a while.

Avatar

yes they said he’s small for 6 months

thanks so much 🫶🏾

I think that could really be beneficial for you ❤️ Ask around in local groups what dr people recommend! There has to be someone working in your area that better suits your needs.

Old-school can be cool for some things but I don't prefer old-school obstetricians! They tend to be behind on what modern/best practice information is out there. And that can lead to bad, or even harmful, recommendations.

I was told this by my first doctor my first pregnancy and got a new doctor and was never told that any other time. I even brought it up to my new doctor and midwife and they both said I was fine every woman is different. My daughter gained weight really slow and my weight gain slowed down in the last few months as she stacked on pounds. I’d just focus on a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby. If you’re concerned, seek a second opinion.

Avatar

Also I started taking in extra protein the last few months of my pregnancy to assist in my daughters growth but she was just small and that okay. Similar for my second pregnancy
