Kennel cough vaccine

My vet wouldn’t give my dog his kennel cough booster in June because it’s a live vaccine.
I didn’t even ask - I was visibly pregnant, so she just told me straight!
He had the other boosters.

Not really advice but my dog recently had hers a few weeks back, didn’t think anything of it, myself and baby are all ok though xxx

There is a very very very small risk that you could catch kennel cough, however it's so remote I personally wouldn't worry about it.

My vet advised me against vaccinating the dogs when I'm pregnant. My choice in the end but didn't want to risk it as it's a live virus they are giving the dogs.

I spoke to my vet about this as mine are due. There are more than one vaccine available so may have different risks but they looked into it for me and are happy it’s safe to give

My vet have my puppy hers when I was 16 weeks - she had to go question it but said it’d be fine

I’m a vet, currently 37 weeks, and I’ve been allowed to administer it as long as wearing gloves however, would never give it to a dog whose in a house with a pregnant person as the risks of it aren’t well documented enough so I’d avoid for now and then get it done once you’ve had baby (as long as for a couple of weeks after vaccine dog isn’t around baby as obviously immune system is a lot lower than ours!)

We should always ask clients if there is anyone immunocompromised (any pregnancy, chemotherapy patients etc) in the household before administering, and due to the lack of evidence we are taught it’s better to avoid.

It’s not a core vaccine so isn’t essential unless going into kennels, and some kennels will take them without it if you explain circumstances. Hope that helps!
