How did my baby get blue eyes?

A friend of mine had her babies blue eyes change to brown at a year old

My partner and I are both brunette with hazel eyes, our three year old is blonde haired and blue eyed 😂

But my eyes actually changed colour when I was closer to 4, it's very unusual but not impossible!

Recessive genes. Also babies eyes can change up to two years of age

My daughters eyes were blue until she was almost two and then turned brown.

Same with my LG. Her dad and I are dark, she has very blue eyes. My husband says she has his father’s eyes😌

It could run in the family and you carry the gene. My mum has Brown eyes and my dad has Hazel. I have 2 younger sisters, youngest is the only one with Blue eyes whereas me and middle sister both have brown eyes. My 2 girls have Blue eyes. With my eldest someone tried to tell me that she will have brown eyes caz "brown is dominant" 🙄 caz their kid had brown eyes- i was like hell she will 🤣 so yea.....

There’s actually a 25% chance that two brown eyed parents with have a blue eyed baby so it’s not even that rare/uncommon 😂

Does anyone in your family have coloured eyes? My great grandmother had blue eyes my grandparents both had brown and birthed my mom who has green. If grandparents have coloured eyes they could still pass you the gene :)

Throwback genetics. You and your man inherited genes from both your own parents. Possibly a grandparent or great-grandparent’s blue eyes or pale skin or whatever are showing through. Our first son looks like a half and half mix of me and my husband, our second son looks exactly like my husbands deceased father, our daughter looks exactly like my mom, but she has my half-sisters eyes. I’m pregnant with my 4th and on ultrasound he looks just like my second did! It’s awful that girl insinuated your son is not your man’s, that’s evil of her. If your man gets worried from those comments, just do a paternity test for his peace of mind.

Blue is a recessive allele (gene variant) for eye colour. Brown is dominant. (Very simplified) You carry two alleles each and pass one to your baby. Baby gets one from each parent. So if you have 1 brown 1 blue you'll always show brown but you still carry the blue. If you both carry blue there's a chance you could both give baby your blues and they'll show blue. I have dark brown eyes and my partner has blue, our LO has blue. So I carry a blue allele and gave it her.

They are a mutation so all it takes is one of you to carry the recessive gene for blue and it can pop through

Hun it is a rare occasion that with everyone's eyes being the colour they are, that Ur babies is blue but it's not impossible. Somewhere there is a blue gene in the family on either side.

What’s crazy is my husband has blue eyes and his dad and brother his mom has greenish brown eyes and I have brown eyes our son has hazel . So I feel like the genetics are kinda funny when it comes to blue eyes

Neither of my parents have red hair but I somehow got it and same with my cousin! Sometimes genes skip a generation but the parents can be a carrier of the recessive gene.

I can't believe someone had the audacity to insert themselves into your life in this way. Your baby's eyes are beautiful! Brown is a more dominant gene and blue does get mixed in. On top of that, a lot of genealogists think that blue is a mutation of the original eye color of brown. Not saying your son is mutated or anything, just something that genetics did thousands of years ago. My mom has brown eyes and everyone else in my family has blue. Sounds like she's just jealous!
