Dog neutering
Hi all. My dog is 2 and a half years old. Since I’ve been pregnant, he’s been extremely needy/crying all day for absolutely no reason. He has plenty of walks and attention from both my partner and I and lots of enrichment activities. He’s not poorly crying as he will stop as soon as he gets attention but the minute we stop stroking it starts again. Starting to get really difficult to do simple things like work from home as he will literally climb up on the back of the sofa and climb on my head for attention or walk all over my lap and just won’t settle no matter what we try. It’s like he’s constantly on high alert!
He is also quite a jealous dog and absolutely cannot stand us giving attention to any other humans, children or dogs and this has gotten worse since I’ve been pregnant.
I was always against getting him done as he has a lovely temperament and I don’t want to risk any negative side effects but I’m worried about how he will be when baby comes. Any advice welcome!
I have to take him for his vaccine boosters at the end of the month so I’ll ask the vet for advice also. I’ve previously been advised against getting him done because he’s quite a nervous dog. Photo attached for cuteness.

Your best asking the vet as my vets wouldn’t do any form of castration until I sorted his behaviours but I’ve worked with a trainer and the vets agreed to do a chemical castration to as a tester before doing the real thing as it only lasts 6months
What negative side effects of neutering? I've always had all my pets done. Cats and dogs.
Neutering prevents cancers and can help calm them down.
I'd look into a dog trainer if I was you as you may have a very difficult dog once baby comes. Seems you've got your hands full already. Good luck x
never known of a chemical castration or it being delayed due to behaviour. Only thing would be if you were doing it to help boisterous behaviour instead of as a prevention of pregnancy and to prevent cancer z
Yh 2 of mine they wouldn’t do it due to behaviours, both had nervous issues. Yh a chemical castration is just an injection they do to see whether it benefits the dog before doing the real thing as it can cause some behaviours to worsen. I’m doing a lot of work with trainers to gain experience and doing a full behaviouralist degree
when I say negative effects I mean changes to his behaviour. Our vet advised that sometimes there are negative changes to their behaviour such as them becoming more timid or more protective or more reactive to other in tact males. Have no idea how true this is though?
You don't necessarily have to get him neutered. You could try getting a good dog behaviourist to help get him more settled
it’s very true one of mine was only reactive to intact males whilst I was pregnant and after so had to get a behaviouralist and trainer in some vets can refer you to a hood behaviouralist as there is a lot of people out there saying they are qualified but aren’t and have no idea what they are doing it took me 5 different ones as none of them have a clue
Our dog sounds quite similar - we had him neutered and he calmed in some ways but it didn’t make any of these behaviours better or worse!
What do mean by negativie side effects...who told you that...i dont understand i have a male dog who is going for 8 come january ,my sisters dog also male around 11
Are both fixed
Never had any probnlems in that area
Talk to your vet about your worries getting him fixed while definitely is an exellant idea dont get it done for the wrong reason seek out a dog behaviorist i did
When we treat them as real babies instead of dogs we are guilty of probblems ( im guilty of this)
I have googled/ you tube'd and watch alot of dog shows
For advce as well as asking my vet and of course the behavourist
We need to change our habbits no1 rule
