Stopping breastfeeding on demand

I’m wondering if anyone can help, I’m so confused! It says online you should continue bf on demand until 1yo (as it’s their primary source of nutrition), however I would like to stop breastfeeding around 1yo. I’m happy to go over by a month or 2 for nighttime or bedtime feeds if my baby needs it but I just don’t get how you can go from feeding on demand to going back to work and feeding once to twice a day? Does anyone have experience with this, if so, when did you start making changes and putting boundaries in place? Or do they just magically not want it as much the second they turn 1😅

For me I just started making changes and incorporating it into our schedule when it was necessary. With my two year old I went back to work around the time he was 5 months. Before I went back I had to get him used to a bottle. I started incorporating the bottle a couple weeks before so I knew he would take it when I was away.
I have an almost 5 month old now and I’m not yet back to work but I already have her accepting bottles for when I am away. She’s used to nursing throughout the night so I know that’s going to be where our challenge will be most likely because I will be having to work overnight.
I’d say the good thing about your little being a year is that solids have been introduced and you can also start offering water or a different milk throughout the day. It’s mostly about distracting them or finding something else to offer in place. It sounds like a lot but you just take it day by day as it comes. I hope this helps 🫶🏻

We’re at almost 18 months now and just starting the weaning process. I kind of started putting my foot down because nursing while pregnant hurts! It took a while to get her to drink whole milk (ended up adding some flavouring) now if she asks for milk I ask her if she wants a cup of milk and most times she does accept. Lately we’ve gone from nursing about 6 times a day to 3 when she wakes, nap, and bedtime. Hoping to cut nap feeds in the next couple of weeks. I’m not super keen on the idea of a milk cup to fall asleep so not sure how to drop that
