Picture communication

Sorry, this may not particularly answer your question but when I worked in a nursery, we used to use Makaton pictures with all ages to help communicate. Before my LG started saying more words, I taught her a few signs of more common sayings ie more, milk, all done, please, etc which she picked up really easily and although she communicates better now and speaks a lot more, she still signs them x

We use sign language for the same things just wondered if its too early to use pictures.

It would depend on your child tbh. It would work with mine as he points to what im asking and shows me what he wants etc but a child i nanny doesnt point to pictures if i ask her to show me a dog for example. They are the same age
