Eczema mamas

Hi! Just joined the group as I’m in need of some advice please 🙏🏻

I feel so deflated on how I’m trying to treat my sons eczema and now I’m stuck what to do next. 😰

My GP has offered steroid cream but they haven’t seen him in person, just asked for photos and have diagnosed that way.
We have use it when first prescribed as it’s the only thing that makes the flare come down but haven’t for a few weeks as long term it’s just not ideal. Seems it’s a slippery slope by the sounds of other experiences that I have read up on 😬

Some days are better than others but today looks terrible and we haven’t done anything different!?!

We are just Epaderm cream at the moment & already tried a few things:
-Baths are just water atm as unsure what products effect him if any.
- Tropic Tamanu Balm
- Aveeno baby (derma)
- Oat baths (felt like this sometimes made it more red and sore?!)
- Sudacrem
-Milk has been the same since birth
-Pre-made milk used at times when out
-Weaning only baby rice & homemade veggie purées atm.

I don’t really know my next options are so I’m reaching out for any advice or product advice etc.

Has anyone gone private and found they got treatment sorted for their lo?

Picture of my LB (6months) skin today.

Thank you 🫶🏻 xxx

I would demand a face to face appointment. I was always told by my little ones doctor no matter the issue babies under 1 years of age should be seen face to face!xx

thank you so much Elle- I’ve just put a form in at my doctors to request the face to face!
I really have tried to be patient and stick it out with this online way they have operating with atm but to see him like this, I can’t wait anymore xxx

I feel for you as we are in the same boat as you. Have you started weaning your baby yet? My baby’s eczema was the worst when we started with solids.

1. Some babies are allergic to oats, so I would stop using oat baths.

2. Has he had an eczema from when you started giving him the formula milk or only just started?

3. I would insist on seeing a dermatologist if you are struggling with your baby’s skin as GPs don’t know a lot about eczema and how to treat it.

4. Ointments are better for baby’s skin when it’s inflamed. We are using Hydromol ointment 6-7 times a day and it suits my baby, but it might not work for your baby. Also, baths every evening no longer than 5-10min. We also do dead sea salt baths 3 times a week, which helps a lot with with his skin.

Thank you - thank you!!!! This is so helpful. Sorry you are going through this with your little one. I’m a FTM so clueless this was even possible to happen to babies at such a young age.

We have started weaning but I’ve done homemade vegetable purées

Its only just started about 2 months ago!

I will defo take your advice for a dermatologist visit. Feel like its time to get answers and results slightly quicker.

Thanks for the tip with Ointments & Dead Sea salt bath, I guess its trail and error but anything is worth a shot.

Thank you for this! 🫶🏻xxx

My baby has eczema but no where near as bad as your little ones, I demanded for a allergy test which came back all normal thank god! But go and definitely demand an allergy test I think possible milk protein allergy, which my nephews has and he had an outbreak like this. Also steroid creams aren’t great as when you stop using them it comes back and then their skin gets immune to the steriod xx

thank you so so much
Leah!🤞🏻

I hope you are your LO is doing ok since the allergy test etc xxx

I was the same. Never dealt with eczema before as non of my family or my husband’s family had it. It can be very frustrating indeed.

Eczema is also related with allergies and gut. I wouldn’t remove any food before speaking to a professional about it or do an allergy test. I do give my baby probiotics daily, but seen results after 2 months. 😊 xx

same for me too!!

thank you! That’s great advice 🫶🏻🫶🏻

My LO was prescribed a steroid cream which did help. And since then we have been using epimax in her bath and moisturising her twice a day with this and it hasn’t come back - though her eczema is mild x

thank you so much! Really appreciate this xxx

My youngest who is 6 months old has chronic Exzema, she has a steroid cream for her scalp, a steroid cream for her ears and then general cream of Hydromol, the steroid cream for her ears and Hudromol have made a good difference within a few days! Sudocream can actually dry the skin out so be careful, you can ask gp to referal you to rapid clinic as your local hospital and then an actual paediatrician can take a look xx

Please research topical steroid cream before using it. Can cause major long term issues. Skin issues stem from gut issues, maybe try a good probiotic. Also would recommend seeing a homeopath, as they are more likely to try and fine the root cause of the eczema rather that just treat the rash 💗 xx

My little boy suffered extremely bad from eczema to the point it’s scarred him. Doctors kept giving us steroid creams etc which made it 10x worse so I took it in my own hands. My mother in law got her hands on this Vietnamese cream and ‘ Dream cream ‘ from lush and also bathe him in leaf tea baths. If you message me I can send you pictures of everything. His skin is now flawless and not a mark on him anymore. His eczsema started around 6 weeks and he’s not 6 months and only just got better with doing them 3 things

Avatar

how did you get the allergy test may I ask? Was it through GP? Do they test for all the main allergens? x

Avatar

Second what Ellie says. Eczema can stem from a bacterial imbalance in the gut. Eczema should be treated internally as well as externally, so probiotics with antimicrobial herbs taken internally (you can book a consultation with a medical herbalist), and treat the skin topically with calendula, chamomile and/or nettle (again, worth chatting with a herbalist who can treat your little one).

I don’t know much about eczema in babies, but having suffered with moderate eczema since a child, I found cutting out dairy made in my adult life made an enormous difference. Almost cleared completely. Have heard dairy can be a trigger for eczema. Maybe GP could allergy test 🤷🏻‍♀️ fingers crossed you find something that helps 🤞🏼

Avatar

wow! Thanks so much for sharing as this really gives me hope that it can go 😬🤞🏻🩵 really appreciate you letting me know about the products too xxx

yes hun, through the GP. I told him I was worried it was an allergy causing it and I want him to have an allergy test so he sent him for one all the main allergens milk, cod, soya, peanuts, egg, shellfish, gluten and wheat x
