Sweeps

I felt really nervous for my first, but the midwife looks down there for a second to see where they’re going! I felt a bit icky after but I’ve since had 5 other midwives do sweeps/cervical examinations for me and I don’t care anymore 🤣 I understand your worry. The one thing that helped me was remembering that the person doing it also has a vagina and they’ve definitely seen 100s of others in their career 🤣🤣 xx

I was feeling a little anxious and insecure before I had my sweep but i just kept reminding myself that it is their job and they will have done it 100s of times! And like Charley has said above they definitely will have seen 100s of vaginas! So try not too worry too much I know it’s easily said than done Xx

It is strange at first but midwives do sweeps like all the time. They’ve seen everything and they are very professional about it all. If you are nervous about the sweep you can just request an examination first (they will check how dilated you might be and where your cervix is etc). Then they’ll ask if you’d like a sweep while they are there.

You’ll also get various examinations when your in labour as they need to check how far dilated you are to push at the right time and it’s exactly the same. You’ll just get used to it, and not care when your in labour xxx

I was so anxious, I mean I’ve had 2 now and I’m 1cm dilated but nothings happened - it really wasn’t as bad as I was expecting and I was quite self conscious too but they are so good!xxxx
