Autism traits

I’m hoping for advice or reassurance please, I’m a very nervous first time mum!

I have worked with children with autism for many years now and have therefore seen many different traits!

I have got an 8 months old baby now and am noticing traits in her; and I know it’s way too young to diagnose or anything but I’m just unsure if what she’s doing is “normal” and she’ll outgrow it, or if it is very early signs! Please can I just have advice or reassurance, not “it’s too young” comments please as I’m very anxious as I just want to support her the best I can!

For a while now she has twirled her wrists and ankles, to the point even when holding toys she twirls her wrists, she is beginning to tense her whole body when excited or do jitter motions, she has started covering her ears a lot, and she is showing absolutely no interest in crawling (I know this isn’t an ASD trait but thought it would add more context to her development)

I know this isn’t a lot and I’m not anxious at the thought of her having ASD as if she does she does, we will support her every step of the way, I just want to know I am effectively supporting her if she is

Thank you

I have a son with ASD he is 10 years old and now I have a 9 month old baby girl. Subconsciously I always look out for traits in her and compare these to my experiences with my 10 year old. When my LG is excited she hand flaps and twirls her ankles. Sometimes she also doesn’t respond to her name.

This could very well be ASD traits but it’s also developmental for her age. She’s learning how to use her body and coordinate it. Its when they continue doing these behaviours obsessively as toddlers that they look out for.

In terms of crawling every baby learns at a different rate. Some babies don’t crawl and go straight to walking

My best advice would be try enjoy your time with LG, as they don’t stay small for long. If your concerns continue your doctor/health visitor/paediatrician can support you accordingly.
