Thoughts on baby name “Roman”?

We are having a baby boy in March and I really like the name Roman. But historically I’m not sure what I think about this name. The guy who crucified Jesus was Roman and Romans did not come to Christ until over 300 years after his death. Before that, they were brutal to Christians. I’m trying to think of justifications for this name. The Romans did help to spread Christianity and it is a book of the Bible. I know it sounds like a trivial, dumb question but I’m starting to think so hard about it I might want to pick a new name lol.

I loved the name Roman when I was pregnant!! But a few months before I was due 3 people had boys and all of them were named Roman and would all be in the same school year so decided to name him Reeve instead!x

I think it’s fine. I don’t know that other people are going to think that hard about the history. The book of Romans is a really wonderful section of the Bible, so I’d assume most people of faith would think it was in line with that. To be very pedantic, while the Romans have a rich history like you mentioned, all of that was necessary in God’s plan and for Christianity. If you love it, go for it!

Thanks for the input! I was taking a class at church and was starting to really overthink it. Will keep it as an option for sure :)

I named my son Amon, he turned out to be a wicked king from the Old Testament. I’m sure my son will be better than him, I don’t take too much stock in it. If you like the name go for it, plenty of cool things about the Romans, Paul was Roman.

Roman is such a cute name!!! I also like Ronan.
