Anyone given birth at Sunnybrook?
How is their ward (regular rooms)?
Is it worth it to get Private or Semi-Private room? (I have no insurance coverage)

I had a c-section there July 2022. The staff is amazing. I listed my preference for a private room (if available) which is what I got. I think it depends on how you sleep, etc and how long you’re likely to remain in the hospital (natural/uncomplicated birth vs c-section). That being said, I have coverage for a semi-private room and only had to pay the difference.

I gave birth vaginal with epidural on Nov 2022 and I had an amazing experience. I had a complicated birth and my daughter wasn’t breathing and they saved her. They birthing room was so big and nice and there was a comfy bench thing my husband could sleep on while we waited. And there was a nice bath in there too but I couldn’t use it because I did the epidural - . The overnight room was just fine. There’s a little fridge in case you wanna bring a pump and pump some colostrum or anything like that and save it. I asked for semi-private but they didn’t have any so they gave me a private with no extra charge. The food was really lack lustre so you can eat it or if you want you could get someone to bring you in food. The chair for your partner to sleep in is very uncomfortable but that’s fine. overall amazing experience. I only stayed one night but I think the private is worth the splurge because you don’t wanna share a room with a crying baby when you’re so sensitive to crying.
Thank you I will be paying out of pocket as I do not have ins coverage. The plan is vag birth but you never know 🤞
Would just like to know if it is worth it as it is a bit pricey per night.

If your plan is an uncomplicated vaginal birth, have you considered birth with a midwife or doula? Then you can give birth at home for free! Wish I could have had that chance, two c sections so far...

It’s very pricey, just go for the semi, which is already expensive, you might get lucky like I did, and it’s only one night(unless there’s a problem), :) congratulations!! Just wait until your baby smiles for the first time!
thank you 😊

Also, I went to Sunnybrook into a room with four other beds, only 3 were ever filled while I was there. It was nice, close to the general break room for tea
I am a bit on the high risk side so we planned on giving birth at the hospital

Personally I would have paid for private even if I didn’t have coverage but that’s in part because c-sections are 24-72 hours in hospital and I struggle with sleep.
Also, if they have no available ward rooms they can’t charge you for a semi or private room (just to keep in mind—hospital billing departments don’t always catch that)
Thank you

Does anyone know if it’s only the private/ semi private rooms that have birthing tubs?
