So I’m about maybe 3 months or 4 months pregnant so far idk yet til my next doctors visit , I’ve been having serious issues with my baby daddy and everyone else knows I’m pregnant but my parents who’s whole life had told me if I get pregnant under their roof they are going to kick me out , how do I approach them? I was honestly going to wait til my belly starts getting bigger 🤰🏻

Are you under 18? If not, they'd have to give you an actual eviction notice to kick you out since you actively live there

I’m 23 currently with no job I was in a housing shelter but they kicked me out once they found out I was pregnant because they are not a family shelter , I want to avoid my parents having to make any decisions til after I give birth because I don’t have nowhere else to go to at the moment

I'm sorry my mom is helping me I just turned 23 I have gotten married and me and my husband are staying with her until we get taxes back and then we will move

My husband is saving money too and it will be helpful to not be alone for a couple months when he is born

Can you get a job? Start looking for work…
Did they tell you that as an under age thing or in general that you would get kicked out?

If suggest finding a job asap and starting to save up what you can to try and find somewhere cheap to live! If you tell them after you've taken those steps they might be more lenient and understanding if they can see you trying your best! X

mostly as a general thing and I had a job they fired me because I was working around food and kept being nauseous for almost 2 weeks the day they fired me was the day I went to the doctors and found out I was pregnant

That’s a tough one cause if you hide it they may be more pissed versus just having the adult conversation and telling them they may come around. The first comment would be true if you were paying rent to your parents but if you’re living there without paying any bills they definitely can kick you out whenever. They may be angry initially but if you go look for a job and agree to help out with bills etc then they may be more supportive. It’s hard to give advice because we don’t know your family dynamic

@Gia even without paying rent she's still considered a resident and is entitled to a 30 day eviction notice and proper eviction process.

yeah this is true I believe it’s called squatters rights

Tell them. & let them know you’re trying to get a job and save so you can move out and how you need they support though they might be disappointed.

@SKY yep it is, you have rights even if you don't pay rent

I would be upfront and honest sooner rather than later, especially if you know you went against their wishes. If they are supporting you they have a right to know. Definitely look into some sort of work, have some income coming in and start saving so you can show them you won’t be a financial burden.

Try applying to a housing authority in your county if there waitlist is open also my parents said the same exact thing im 22 i didnt have a job while pregnant and didnt pay rent or anything and i had issues with my bd too try and have an adult conversation with them yes they will be mad but eventually they will come around and be there for you my father was the same way and he came around maybe try to find an at home job if you have a computer or laptop at home or if you have your license and you drive do Uber Eats, door dash, grub hub, instacart, shipt

housing in nyc is a pain in the ass it’s like super hard to get housing 😩

im sorry to hear that
