My baby caught a cold with a runny nose and cough. And he just woke up from his nap screaming so hard so I went into his room. Gave nasal suction with saline drops, teething gel (since he has 2 teeth erupting now), hugs, regular calming routine, and nothing seem to stop him. The only other thing I could think of is ear pressure from mucus but I don’t know how to treat that.. any advice or thoughts?

I'd call your pediatrician and consult them. Rsv is going around right now and it's always better safe then sorry.

I’ve found that the nasal suction just doesn’t have enough power to actually get a lot of the gunk out. It’s like it gets the mucus at the front but not back in their little cavities. I’ve been using a soft tip nasal irrigation and of course my baby HATES it, but it gets so much more gunk out than just sucking her nose. I would also highly recommend a warm mist humidifier and I add a Vicks menthol air strip to mine. I also love the Vicks steam shower pellets. I get the bathroom steamy with the shower all the way on hot, strip her nakey and after I put the pellet in the shower we stay in the room for 5 minutes or so, holding her up to get as much steam as possible. I use the zarbees chest rub on her feet, chest, and back and that helps her.

The nasal irritation I think helps the most though because it moves that mucus along so it’s not stagnant in their little faces as that can cause an infection. Do your research though and ask your pediatrician first. I’ve been doing it on my daughter since 4 months. She has older siblings in school so we’ve dealt with constant colds since August

We have the same problem with my baby girl she would wake up screaming and crying the only thing that would work is if you go to sleep with her on top of you on your chest and even if you want to move just don't move it all which is what happened to my husband.

that’s how I started cosleeping 😅 I slept with her like that during her first cold and we both decided we preferred it that way. My husband was against it but didn’t push me too hard and now he cuddles her in the bed more than I do 😂😂 But yes, them sleeping at an incline also helps a lot especially at night. I also give my baby Kindermed night time cough medicine just to help give her some relief at night with her coughing.
