Marginal Cord insertion

Hi guys, I found out that I have a marginal cord insertion 20 weeks into my pregnancy. Its this rare case where the umbilical cord attaches to the side of the placenta instead of in the middle. Just wanted to see if anyone else was in the same boat as me ? Always nervous my baby isnt getting enough nutrition or oxygen.

I got told the same thing at my 20 week scan and they also thought baby was small. They sent me to get a specialist ultrasound and it turns out baby wasn't small, nor was it a marginal insertion but rather an eccentric one which runs along the edge of the placenta before inserting. If your midwife is worried about baby's size they'll send you to the obstetrician who will probably order a specialist scan. If baby isn't small I don't think you need to worry, they're clearly getting enough nutrients from you anyway 💛

I also have one with my second pregnancy. Obstetrician ordered extra scans every 4 weeks to track growth up to delivery but in general I think as long as it’s monitored closely towards the end it’s fine. I’ve had friends who’ve had it and delivered very healthy babies xx
