Nappy rash
Could really use some advice I am a FTM and my baby girl is 6 days old.
She has a really bad nappy rash and I feel so bad.
It doesn’t seem to be getting any better as she’s constantly needing her nappy changed.
In all the baby classes I’ve done it’s been advised to not use products on their skin until they are at least 6 weeks old but my mom reckons if I bath with baby wash it will help as it will get rid of the acidity.
Does any one have any advice please☹️😫

You can definitely use a cream on the nappy rash. Metanium Ointment is a game changer. It comes in a yellow tube, a little goes a long way but it will clear up the rash really quickly. Suitable from birth. Can be bought over the counter at the chemist or any decent supermarket.
Id sooner use a cream like this on the rash than put baby wash in the water. That’ll just irritate it. Bath baby with water only, leave her nappy free on a towel for as long as possible, let the air at it and then when you do need to nappy her, put a thin layer of Metanium on the rash and she’ll be right as rain. Once the rash has cleared up I’d then use a barrier cream every nappy change like Sudocreme or Bepanthen to prevent it coming back. Some babies have sensitive skin and are more prone to nappy rash so they need a little extra protection. Cream on babies bottoms will do no harm. Tried and tested here, never did my child any harm, I swear by it x

Thank you so much 😫 you have no idea what a help this is. I feel awful, I think it started from cleaning her bum with cotton balls and water and then drying it with the cotton balls which was also advised in the baby classes.

Also, pat babies bum dry or like Gina said, give bubba some air drying time on a towel, if house is warm enough! The wiping will be irritating the skin xx

Don’t feel awful, you’re doing a fantastic job and we learn these things only through experience. Nappy rash is a really common thing especially in newborns. The fact you’re on here looking for something to help your baby already tells me you’re a wonderful mother ❤️

Metanium is the one! Might be worth having some nappy free time too so the air can get to it - I’d just pop baby on a towel on a changing mat in a warm room for a while.
For drying generally, I’d say ‘cheeky wipes’ are better than cotton wool - just gently dab with one rather than wiping fully dry - they’re soft and unlike cotton wool won’t stick to baby’s bum.
Bath wise, there shouldn’t be any products used in it for a while.
Don’t feel bad though - most babies get nappy rash from time to time!
