Has anyone done the baseline 24hr urine protein level test? What does that mean or what happens if it’s high

When you leave a sample at your doctors .. they test it for traces of protein.. you’re came back high so they want to confirm by testing again .. you’re showing signs of preeclampsia I’m not sure why df your doctor didn’t tell you that .

If that test comes back high you’ll be considered a “high risk pregnancy” which is a super scary for no reason way of saying they want you more closely monitored more often .

Hi, thank you. I’ve googled some info. That is weird because I’m not showing any signs of preclampsia. I’m 37 and I think they are just being extra with me because of my maternal age.

Mmayyybbeeeee .. but the biggest signs of preeclampsia is protein in your urine and high blood pressure .. you wouldn’t necessarily know unless your doctor told you … the 24 hour urine test is super gross and inconvenient lol they don’t really make you do it as a precaution.. signs would have to be there

I’m sorry I’m not at all trying to come off as mean or insensitive.. I apologize if I come off in that way at all .

Yes. They give you a thing called a top hat that fits in your toilet & you pee into it everytime you go for 24 hours. You put that in a jug they give you & keep it refrigerated. Then you turn it into a lab after. The lab will test & if your proteins come back above a certain level it indicates preeclampsia. Typically also if you have high blood pressure. I had to do this several times w/ my daughter. I had high BP starting at 30 weeks. The first urine test came back in normal range. Then they retested 4 weeks later &that came back high. I started NST monitoring on baby twice a week and retested 24 hr urine each week after. 36 weeks my bp stopped responding to the meds they had put me on and when my protein came back high again, they decided they would induce me at 37 weeks as it was no longer safe for me or baby any more. If my BP had stayed under control they would have waited til 39 weeks to induce. If you get preeclampsia they RARELY will let you go past 39 weeks as it gets more dangerous to deliver baby.

Ok it all makes sense now. No high bp but small amount of urine in protein so that you all
For that information. I appreciate any info I can get.
