Is it rude to not open gifts at your baby shower? I know that everyone’s favorite part is to see what you got but it feels so overwhelming.

I also find it awkward but I had two friends sit with me to help me feel less overwhelmed and awkward. One friend was on my right side to hand me gifts (so I didn’t have to get up), and another friend was on my left side and would take gifts after I opened them to organize and write down info for thank you notes. It helped to have other people with me so not just everyone was starring at only me.

I had a small shower (30 people), many people shipped gifts to the house directly, a few did bring gifts to the shower. I did not open gifts at the shower, I don't think anyone was offended! I did not want to open gifts because personally I'd feel awkward /anxious

So I had a babylist registry and most gifts shipped directly to my house. My baby shower was at my mom's, and some people did bring gifts. I didn't do a whole show. My shower was over and like 75% of the people had already left. A couple family friends stayed later to hang out/chat and me and my mom opened and cataloged gifts while we were all talking. That was about it.
I have a Babylist registry as well and have noticed most stuff has been sent to me so far so I’m not sure how many gifts we’ll even have in person. Mostly I’m just exhausted and don’t want to put on a show😭 my shower is today so hopefully it goes smoothly

I find it super awkward to open gifts in front of people (especially if people get something off-registry that you don't want/need), so my sister actually put it on the invite that I wouldn't be opening gifts at the shower (and spun it to say that it was so I could spend more time celebrating with guests).
I still had 3 guests try to guilt me into it during the shower, including one aunt even telling me that I "had" to because that's everyone's "favorite part". I stood my ground and told them no (reminded them it was in the invite), and my sister backed me up on it when they approached her separately to convince me. I just let them know me and my husband would open them privately and follow-up with pictures of their gifts.
The best part is that all 3 of those guests that were insistent/upset that I didn't open gifts at the shower all gave the same thing...a quilt. Something that 1) I didn't ask for and 2) would have had a hard time pretending to like. So I'm really glad that I didn't cave on it.

I did a display shower. I put a card in each envelope. I told a lot of people beforehand too that I wouldn't be opening gifts. It was a good way to get baskets too. This was the card we used.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about putting on a show. Just enjoy your shower and see how the day goes.
I will say the gifts we did get at the shower were stuff not on the registry, clothes, and an insane amount of diapers because we did a diaper raffle with a prize. And pretty much every single person brought diapers, which was great.

I had 65 people at my baby shower it would from 3 hours to 7 and I just felt so tired and overwhelmed.. I waited until it was just family and opened some.

i didn’t open gifts at my shower and i loved it

I did not open gifts. It’s sooooo tiring being all happy and surprised at every gift, especially when I am frustrated that gift after gift is not off my carefully curated registry 🤣
