I will likely be a single mom soon. What the hell do I do? I'm low income and afraid but I'm also strong. I can't do this alone

Can you pls share any significant useful resources?

What type of resources are you seeking support with?

Avatar

Food bank.

There there are groups on Facebook where moms post what they don't use anymore, and anyone can get it for free

What kind of resources do you need?

There are a bunch of mom support groups. Are you having a boy? I’d love to donate some used clothes. My little one is now 2 so don’t need any of the 0-6 stuff

What all resources do you need ?

The right networks helps.. any really good single mom groups to join via WhatsApp or Facebook??? WhatsApp for single moms in east end, upper beaches?

Resources you swear by that helped you get by

Housing for starters! Where and how am I supposed to live now?

I'm avoiding living with my mom because she a covert narcissist and I get sick of I hang out with her too long

What helped you leave your relationship and find security and safe place to live for yourself and babe?

I'm in a 2 bedroom with 3 kids but I also had to do it in a bachelor for a couple years, made it work. Also work from home remote jobs!

So downsizing and making a budget. There were not any resources really for me and I had victims services try to help, I'm not sure what your situation is but there's also ontario works they may be able to help further

In terms of housing there are some options such as single mother housing through Greenwood it’s called home bound or dependent on your situation if it’s a domestic violence situation you could get support through fast tracked rgi housing at TCHC and housing support through victim services. Feel free to message me I’m a social worker in the city.

Call Toronto Womens College and ask them about resources for whatever you need (housing, counselling etc) they should provide you with phone numbers that’ll get you in contact with people that can help. Your strong and are capable and loved. Good luck 🤞🏽

I honestly don't know. Anything to help me live within my means and not incur debt! I only get about 1800 per month which includes the CCB

mine is turning 7mos tomorrow! I don't think he will fit 6mo clothes anymore but thank you so much.

Mom support groups via Facebook.. or something else?

Avatar

that's great. I'm already part of the reproductive life stages program at women's college hospital and have a psychiatrist in that program. I'll ask them about everything!

I appreciate remembering that I am loved

Avatar

Yes on Facebook! There’s also a few pages where moms are giving away their old gently used clothes. If you want to send me a message I’m happy to share the links

Avatar

I really appreciate your help and expertise. Social workers in the city are seriously hardcore people who've seen it all. Fortunately mine's not domestic abuse, it's more about recent infidelity and emotional trauma (in addition to my own personal history with childhood trauma)

I would still look into homeward bound through wood green it may be the program you need in terms of housing.
