Throwing food

Hey mamas! Does anybody have any tips on how to get your baby to stop dropping food on the floor off their plate/tray? My son is about to be one on Friday and I'm having a really hard time with him wanting to take food off of his plate to put it on the floor. At first I thought it was because of my dogs that he just enjoyed feeding them but now my dogs are outside when we're eating and he's still doing it! I feel like I've tried everything I don't know what else to do. If anyone has any tips that would be greatly appreciated I feel like I'm going crazy! A picture of my little man.

That you attach to your high chair!

I would give my son a extra empty bow and I told him to put any food he didn’t want in the bowl. When I go get him out of his high chair I ask him if he’s done and have him put his spoon on the extra bowl so I know when he’s done

We are in the same boat. The key is not to react when they do it. We thought it was because of the cat but it’s not. It’s a phase, which has been going on for weeks.

I feel like this is the second time he's gone through this exact phase. He did it at about 6 months and I first went straight to punish ment and realized he didn't understand so then I ignored it and it went away. Now I feel like I failed actually teaching him it's not ok behavior because I ignored it. Maybe the key is to not ignore it just not react? Idk.

that's a good idea I will have to try that

might try this myself.

you’ve not failed. At this age they’re processing so much and learning new skills so to them it seems normal. I changed my phrasing to ‘that belongs on your plate doesn’t it?’ We even stopped putting the plate there in case it was overload and just put bits of food out at a time which works most days. If they’re hungry enough they’ll eat.

ok that helps I may try that I did notice when I take the plate away and just give him a piece or 2 he does eat it. So maybe it's just too much for him right now. Thank you!

it’s all trial and error. We even change feeding location and let her take her time. I’m hoping eventually she will just eat everything I feed her.
