Question!

What are you putting your little ones in when in the car seat in terms of jackets/coats? I understand it's not so safe to have them in lots of layers I just don't want him to be too cold when out and about?! We went for a walk today and I put his jacket on once we were there and took it off before we drove home as I was worried it was too bulky! Pic for cuteness 😁 (also this is a fab teether if anyone is looking for one, he loves it. Never leave the house without it) xx

I just do exactly what you’ve done. Only out jacket or pram suit on once we’ve arrived at our destination.
Just normal clothes and a super thin cardigan at most in the car seat. I pop a blanket over her legs.
The car tends to get warm so even if the starts wasn’t an issue, she’d overheat if she was wrapped too much in the car.
It’s a pain putting jackets on and off but it’s the into safe option

if you’re going for a walk, it’s fine. it’s when you’re in the car that it’s not safe, because it will affect the fit of the straps and will be dangerous if you crashed. when in the car tuck a thick blanket around and they will be warm enough

It’s recommended not to put them in a car seat with bulky coats/suits because of the belt not being secure. We put a blanket over our LG until we are out of the car and then pop a coat on her.

Try putting a blanket until the car warms.. Then you can take it off if you not driving.

A cardigan with a blanket over her until the car has warmed up
I have a thermal cosy toes on her pushchair to keep her warm if doing a short walk otherwise once we stop I put a snowsuit on her in the car before going out and a about

I met a car seat specialist and she said to not have coats or jackets on while in a car seat because they can over heat as there isn't any ventilation, she said a blanket over the legs

Avatar

@Sally that's right, it also prevents the straps being secure enough to contain your child in a crash

Where’s the teether from?x

I think it’s Nuby as we have one.

Thanks everyone! I thought I was doing the right thing with just a blanket in the car just wanted to make sure 😊 he's at the age where he doesn't like being led down anymore so carrycot isn't an option and he's not quite old enough for a stroller so carseat is the only option if I want to take the pram out 😅 x

No coat or jacket just put a blanket over the top xx

surely this is the same as having something under the straps at the front? If baby is on a blanket then they’re not fit tight into the seat.
I wouldn’t have thought it’s safe to add anything to a car seat as they’ve been tested as they are, without modifications.
It’s a decent idea though because it is a pain trying to wrap them up when they’re asleep. My daughter hates her arms being under a blanket so I’d have to get her out to put a cardigan or something on to cover her arms đŸ€ŠđŸ»â€â™€ïž

the design I have is thinner on the back so it’s like having another thin layer on, make sure you have the straps tights and it’s safe. It is recommended that you check with your own car seat manufacturer - with mine they’re safe to use.
