Flu vaccine

My son’s nursery sent a letter for the flu vaccine out today but I’ve heard so many mixed things about it that I’m in two minds🫤what are your opinions on it?

It’s a squirt up the nose , over in seconds and painless , my daughter was fine after x

What kind of mixed things hun? I'm asthmatic so I've always had it, never had any problems and it's a lot easier on little ones than the other vaccinations x

@Anna I’ve seen quite a few people online saying it’s made their children really unwell afterwards with lots of side effects and it’s worried me a bit x

@Daisy how weird! I've not heard anything like that, my little girl has hers booked for tomorrow. I had mine a couple weeks ago though and no problems. I know a strong reaction to a jab is supposed to be a good thing because it means its worked properly, but yeah, none of us want to see our little ones ill if they don't need to be. I guess, from my basic understanding, whatever reaction you have to a vaccine will be much less than getting the actual illness, so if it makes them ill, they'll still be a lot less ill than if they caught that strain of flu if that makes sense? But yeah, I've always had it since I was little, sometimes it makes my arm a bit sore but nothing more than that. X

The flu vaccine made my son really ill. I wasn't expecting this to happen at all considering I have it yearly and had it a few months ago whilst pregnant and was fine. I took my son to get it a few weeks ago (first time) and days later he was very poorly with a fever, barking chesty cough, runny nose and vomiting. The symptoms didn't last as long as they usually do when he isn't well, but it was a very intense 2 days. All of a sudden we thought it was over but then after 2 days of being well, the same symptoms returned for 2 extra days. If I had known this would have happened I don't think I would have let him have it. He's never had the flu before but of course the vaccine is supposed to make it more bearable. They predicted this year will have very high cases of the flu hence the letters and texts everyone is getting. Hoping your little one doesn't respond the same if he gets it.

@Grace oh no that’s awful☹️I’ve heard so many people say their children have been really poorly afterwards and I’m not sure whether it’s worth letting my son get it or not

@Anna it does make sense that’s so helpful thank you x
