I need to start Nutramigen for my 6 week old, but i heard it tastes awful. Is it ok to add a drop of vanilla extract for a 6 week old for his formula feed?

Yeah alcohol free since you won’t be cooking it and it will be consumed often and make sure it’s not imitation extract although it’s cheaper it’s like an oil type and honestly taste gross too .

I added vanilla extract to my babies neocate at 6 weeks old, dietitian said it was OK to do..... Still tasted foul though

Did your babies take it easily at first go?

I would try without it first. Some babies will take it without. The vanilla should be a temporary thing to get them transitioned. But if they won't try it alone then yeah you can use alcohol free vanilla. Or try mixing with breastmilk and slowly do more formula then breastmilk until baby adjusts

My LB wouldn't take it, he was breastfed though so very different taste, we tried everything but had to continue breastfeeding and cut milk, egg, soya and wheat out of my diet. He's just a stubborn little man 😂

I didn't add it to my LO bottles and she took to it fine. But we did slowly introduce it to her so we used 2 scoops of old milk then 2 nutramigen then next day 1:3 so on. She's been on it now for 6 months.

Mine has been on Nutramigen for about 7 weeks now. The very first time I tried a bottle with 100% Nutramigen (no vanilla or anything), he refused. Reattempted with 1/3 Nutramigen and 2/3 expressed breastmilk and he took that fine. Over a few weeks we increased the ratio to eventually get to 100% Nutramigen and he has never fussed. So you could try it without vanilla at first if you mix with another milk. Be warned, it will still smell like Nutramigen (makes me think of cheese biscuits!)

I fed my baby with it for the first time when he was very hungry so I think that helped in that he’d have ate anything 😭 that was the advice of the infant feeding team! He took to it straight away; although I do add carobel for thickness not sure if that changes the taste, I doubt it x
