So the inevitable has happened! My little girl (3 weeks on Tuesday) has picked up her older toddler brother’s snotty nose. No temperature or anything else, just bunged up and snotty. Is anyone using a snot sucker and if so, any recommendations?
TIA x

We had the same problem but the tommee tippee snot sucker we have was too big for his teeny nose. Saline drops help but we found it cleared up very quickly x

Our little boy caught our toddlers cold in his first week as well despite trying to avoid it! He had sniffles for a few days, was eating really well and no temp but ended up with bronchiolitis, keep an eye on her breathing as that was the only thing that made us go to the doctors in the end. I know this is extreme but its so easy to develop into when they're so small 😔 for a good snot sucker I 100% recommend this one, it worked really well, just need a good set of lungs 😂

thanks love! Saline is a great suggestion. Hoping it’s over quickly for her, glad your little boy didn’t have it for long. These poor babes at this time of year 😩 x

I was about to write a similar post 😫 still need to brave using the saline spray and snot sucker. He can’t sleep on his back currently as struggling to breath so back to sleeping on my chest and having to alternate who stays up :(

what signs in his breathing gave away bronchitis. I’ve been to gp and a&e with my baby. Due to a rotten cold not shifting away.

an I’m so sorry I missed your response! Thank you for replying and will absolutely watch out for that. The HV did flag it’s the season for that. I’m so sorry your little one has bronchiolitis, how scary in such a small baby. What were the signs of the breathing, was it the tummy decompressing etc? Also, I bought your sucker that you recommended, thank you! Looking forward to it arriving, currently lying next to a little sleeping piggy with her blocked nose (and a big one, my partner won’t stop snoring 😒)

so sorry your little one struggled with this. What were the symptoms of when it switched to bronchiolitis?

Thanks all! The big sign for us was the sucking in under his ribs when breathing, this meant his body was working really hard just to breath and it was using all of his muscles to do so, it can also be seen at the bottom of their neck, I'd recommend pulling sleepsuits and vests up further every time you do a nappy change and just watch them breathing for a minute or two. It's really obvious when it's happening so you'll know straight away. If they are I'd suggest straight to a and e and not to the doctors, it could be that they need oxygen support like our little boy and it'll be the hospital that can provide this.
Hope this helps! xx

@Samantha aww poor little one! It's awful because you can only do so much for them! That snot sucker honestly was really good for us along with the saline spray, it did make him cry when you got a good amount out as I imagine it doesn't feel too nice but definitely cleared him up! Haha I know the feeling, I've banished my partner into the spare room whilst I'm waking up with the little one, I'd never get any sleep! 🤣 x

My little one has a slight cold. The main thing is to keep an eye on breathing as the worst-case scenario is it becomes bronchitis or croup. I've always used snuffle, baby, but this age, you have to rub it on top of their sleep suit as you can't put it on the skin until their older
