Hi! I had my anatomy scan today! So almost everything looks perfect with her. It’s more of an issue with the cord and placenta. The cord isnt attached to the middle of the placenta and could be either marginal or velamemtous. If it is velamemtous it means it’s not attached to the placenta, it’s attached to other membranes in the uterus. Concerns would be baby growth and preterm labor. We go back in February for them to check it again. Has anyone experienced this before?

I also have a marginal placenta it's 1.9 cm from the edge so it's just off center. The doctor who reviewed ultrasound said my OB would mention it at my appointment in 4 weeks but my OB said everything is good

Thanks Amanda!! That gives me some comfort!

I had the exact same issue they aren’t sure which one it is I go back in January when I’m 27 weeks for another scan to identify which one it is! I really hope it’s marginal I think mine is looking for velamentous though. 🫣will report back . How are your feeling ? What are your thoughts on all of this I was very concerned at first

same! We go back feb 6. Of course I started googling everything as soon as I got home and it’s definitely very scary! I am staying hopeful and positive. Just unsure how to really navigate it all. I just want the baby to have everything she needs

So basically if you have velamentous what makes it dangerous is if the insertion is close to the cervix. Mine was not close which was good news so hopefully it stays that way! I just want the safest delivery option possible which a complicated cord situation

Hi Mackenzie! I’m a registered OBGYN sonographer and owner of Bella Babies 3D Imaging. This might sound scary and I’m sure the doctors played it up to be, but it’s actually a GREAT thing that they found it this early on, so they know how to properly monitor you throughout your pregnancy and can assign labor precautions so they’ll be able to deliver you safely. As a high risk tech, this is very common so you are not alone. I hope this helps !

I was diagnosed with velamentous cord insertion at 20 weeks. Obviously panicked! They said they’d monitor it more closely starting at 28w but we insisted to come back at 24w which was a great decision because baby grew well in the 65% percentile and it gave me a lot of peace of mind! If you can ask for it earlier I definitely recommend it!

what was your delivery like with a velamentous cord??
