Baby led weaning

What age should you start baby led weaning? I’ve had some people start at 4 months but some say don’t start till 6, my son shows all the signs of being able to start led weaning but he’s only 4 months.

And also what foods would they start with when they first start? I’ve heard some say do oatmeal first and I’ve heard others say do pursers first so I have no idea

Thank you!

The group I'm in says 6 months...

I use the app solid starts it has been very helpful! I started at 6 months. Or, Once she could sit up on her own. It’s important to use your gut on some things too.

BLW really is the baby feeding themself so you need to check all signs of readiness. The biggest one is sitting unaided which most babies hit around 6 months. Some sooner some later. I'd really look at what a baby in a high chair should look like because any leaning is a choking risk. Purees aren't really under the BLW umbrella but can be used as things like dips for food or to blend in with something like yogurt for a new taste.

Started weaning at 4 months, purées only, literally 0 lumps. But this is only as my baby has a severe case of acid reflux and was advised this won’t stop until solids are introduced - if he is showing signs I was test the waters and see how it goes. At this age it is just to get used to the concept rather than to fill them up so still give him the same amount of milk too! Good luck 🥰

Also you feed them, don’t let him feed himself yet x
