Whittington Hospital Birth center Reviews

I'm thinking of changing my current hospital from the Royal Free Hospital to Whittington Hospital does anyone have any experience with them?

Oo just following as I’m at the Whittington and would also love to hear people’s experiences of the birthing centre

Hi! I gave birth at the Whittington at the end of October. I saw the same midwife for every pregnancy appointment and she was fantastic - very caring and supportive of all my choices. The midwife (and student midwives) who helped me through labour and birth were also amazing. Really kind and stuck to my birth preferences. I wanted to have a water birth in the birth centre though, and when we arrived they shut the birth centre due to lack of staff so ended up on the Labour ward anyway. Feel free to message me if you have any other qs! I feel like I had a great experience at the Whittington regardless but some of the women from my NCT class weren’t very happy with their care there.

One more thing: although I couldn’t labour and give birth at the birth centre, by the time baby arrived it was open and they had a room free so we were given a birth centre room to spend the night. The facilities were very new and clean, you had your own bathroom, birthing pool, exercise balls, and a really big bed. Would have been great if we’d got to use it!

I gave birth at the Whittington in July and I'm very happy with the care I received before, during and after. I wanted to birth at the birth centre but unfortunately had to go for induction after 3 days labouring. I did use the birth centre for some hours and it was great, big room with everything Nurul mentioned above. I have to mention though that I wanted to use the pool as pain relief but they only let you use it when on active labour so I didn't get to use it. But would have loved to have been able to stay there and spend the night with baby and husband (it was my own choice as I requested an epidural). The labour ward was also good, big room and the midwife and doctor's care was excellent. We then spent the night in the ward with other families (separated by curtains) and I guess this is like any other hospital, noisy and uncomfortable, but again the midwife care was great and plenty of tests done to me and little one to make sure all was ok.

Hi, I gave birth at Whittington hospital and it was a really good experience. I would advise anyone to go there

I have been with the Whittington for both my pregnancies. In my opinion I thought that they were great. Really looked after myself and my children.

I’ve given birth at Whittington and know a friend who gave birth at Royal Free. I’d give Whittington the edge on Antenatal care after comparing our experiences, but Royal free doesn’t close the birth centre as often. I’m actually Booking in at Homerton as a backup per our Doula’s recommendation as birth centre closure rates at Whittington are increasing due to understaffing. Hope that helps!

Note - I’m still planning to give birth at Whittington unless I call on the day and they say they’ve closed the birth center. The pool made all the difference in my first birth, and I’m keen to get that again 🙏

I have royal free 1h by bus and from beginning to birth was there last year, and for me it has been a wonderful experience! I love my midwife and I have choose again to go there, definitely nr1 for me of my experience, I have been inducted and they have been so nice to me!
