Belly piercing?

I only got my belly button pierced in May and I changed the metal bar to the surgical pvc? bar about 5 weeks ago.

I feel like it’s super sensitive more like I’m hyper aware of the piercing in my skin… has anyone else experienced this or have any advice on how to subside it?

My piercing is about 10 years old and still felt sensitive / odd, the only solution I found was to take it out unfortunately. I know you can get long flexible bars for pregnancy which might help but I think it’s personal preference!

it’s a medical grade bar, it was recommended by the nurse as it’s still healing, I still clean it daily and the metal ones have to be removed during scans and it’s the only reason I changed over

they are the kind I got it’s like twice as long as my normal bar, but I’m glad it’s not an only me experience x

I didn’t say for definite that it was pvc just that it was that style of material as it wasn’t metal, it definitely is medical grade and I was more concerned with the hyper sensitivity than the material of my bar

it's likely a bioplast bar I think they're called from when I had to get one for my tongue piercing for surgery they can be really annoying and irritable to the skin the best advice is either carry on with it or remove entirely. I think you can get softer silicone ones these days so that could be an option for longevity but most women I know end up taking it out entirely and then either redoing it when post partum or just leaving it out forever

Sorry don’t know how to fix it but have had mine for 10 years and had to take it out around 13 weeks because mine was really sensitive and rubbing on clothes x

If you are trying to keep on through pregnancy there are belly rings for that. It’s like a plasticky thing that is flexible. When I got mine done like 15 years ago it was getting irritated a lot when I was the gym and yoga, so I switched to one of those for a bit until I could tolerate the others again. It’s been fine for years now… but I think with tummy stretching I might need to go back to that soon.

I had to use one for surgery and it was the only material I was allowed to use as it's a medical grade product that the consider safe and even they they still made me take it out and tie ab epidural tube through my piercing to keep it open as it was oral surgery. I agree on the bar too long or short or over cleaning etc or just a simple allergy to the material as just because a product is medical grade there can still be allergies
