Bedtime …. Advice?

I know there isn’t a right or a wrong way but I’m more so wondering if anyone else has a similar routine to us? He has 5 feeds a day and normally after his 5-5.30pm feed we will give him a bath (if it’s bath night) and he’ll be asleep by around 7. We keep him downstairs with us and then come around 8.30-9 I’ll change his nappy and give him his last feed of the day (no night feeds) he will then fall pretty much straight back asleep and we’ll take him upstairs to bed with us around 9.30-10.30 (we’re early birds not night owls 😂). I’ve been wanting to try and bring his last feed forward but it’s just not been working out. He has 3 naps a day (either in his Moses downstairs or contact, depends on the day!) and they are all pretty long, around 1-2 hours each and he normally wakes up around 6.30-7.15 in the morning. I’m mainly just wanting to know if: 1. People are putting their little ones upstairs to bed and then putting the baby monitor on and staying downstairs with their partners? 2. Has anyone successfully brought feeds a bit closer together? 3. Has anyone else put their little one in their own room (personally I think I’ll wait until 6 months) Sorry for the ramble! Xx

This is just an idea of our typical daily routine (17 week little girl). Wake up around 7.30/8am and first bottle 8.30am , then she will have an hour nap around 10am , have some play time and stories then second feed at 12.30pm and will put her upstairs into her next to me for a long 2-3 hour nap. Then wake around 3.30pm play for an hour or so have her bottle at 4.30pm then sleep from about 5-6.30pm and have her last bottle at 8.30pm. If it’s bath night we bath her around 7.30/8pm before her last feed and then up to her next to me for 9pm and she will sleep through. We usually turn the baby monitor on and leave her be and we stay downstairs and watch some tv , have a cuppa and some time to ourselves ❤️ she feeds 7oz of Aptamil hungry baby ❤️xx

@Naomi aaaaah thank you! So your little girl has 4 feeds throughout the day? I’m a little reluctant to drop a feed for my boy has he tends to only have 5-6oz per feed. My boy will wake around 6.30-7.15 and we’ll take him down and give him a bottle and he tends to fall back asleep for 1.5-2 hours. He’ll then wake up and have his next feed - play and then sleep. Then wake up and want to feed again …. And continue the cycle! Again I know there is no right or wrong but maybe we are doing it the wrong way round the feed, play, sleep. And we should do feed, sleep, play? Who the hell knows 😂😂

We were having issues with bedtime with our LO until recently he has 5 feeds a day too and no night feeds he would generally have a feed around 7.30ish and then be out to bed downstairs with us until we go to bed but he would just stay away and unsettled until about 10/11. We have now started putting him upstairs for his naps in the day and also for bedtime and we have the baby monitor on. He is sleeping so much better and is finding it easier to fall asleep. He still sleeps in our room at night and will probs continue until he’s close to 6 months as he does sometimes need a bit of settling quickly in the night. We did also have a reflux issue and now because that has improved dramatically we do try to do more frequent feeds in the day where possible to allow him his longer sleep overnight. Sorry for the rambled reply. I would say try what works best for you. This is working for us now but I think they change so regularly at this age so I am enjoying the good sleep whilst it lasts 😁

We are in the same situation, my girl likes 4 hours between feeds ideally as she is not hungry and will have 5/6oz a feed so I feel that she needs 5 feeds and it can be hard to fit the last one in at a good time before she goes to bed. I’ve recently started doing the last one as a dream feed about 10.30pm which works well 90% of the time she drinks it all and stays asleep. Tonight for the first time we put her up in the next to me about 8.30pm and set up the monitor and she has slept very well. So I think my plan going forward will be 4 feeds during the day (7.30,11.30,3.30,7.30), then putting her up to bed in the next to me with the monitor on around 8-8.30pm and then doing her dream feed around 10.30pm when I go up to bed. I haven’t tried that out yet but I think it will work! Xxx

@Bethan yes she has 4 feeds every 4 hours obviously if she wanted or needed more I’d happily give. My advice would be to play around a little with different routines to see which one sticks for you but let your baby take the lead let them tell you when they’re hungry! This is what we done and she set herself in the routine she’s in now ❤️xx

Could you try shorter naps in the hopes he’ll be ready for bed earlier? Maybe the last nap of the day? My little ones last nap is a short one 4-4:30 and he’s asleep by 7/7:30 for the night after his last feed. He feeds every 2-3 hours but that’s purely because he’s a very hungry boy, we’re actually trying to get him to go longer😅 In terms of sleeping arrangements we’ve pretty much always put him to bed and had the monitor on, if we were to try and transfer him he’d just wake and be up for hours We put him into his own room a week ago at 4 months (we did really want to wait until 6months but he outgrew his next to me and we were all constantly waking each other up all night!) and he sleeps better now- even naps have improved

Does your boy wake up for the nappy change and feed at around 8:30-9pm or are you waking him? Have you tried skipping that and seeing how long he sleeps from 7pm? Could you do his last feed after his bath instead of before? 1. I put our boy (5 months old) down when he falls asleep around 7pm and use the baby monitor whilst husband and I stay downstairs. 2. We increased feeds in the day to 5 (drinks anything between 5-7oz) to every 2-3 hours, hoping it would get rid of the night feed. But nope he still has 1 night feed so now he just has extra 😂 3. Not in own room yet, but we are thinking about it soon.
