Potty training 2 year old

So my daughter is showing signs she’s ready to potty train. I tried a couple of separate times within the last few months and didn’t get very far. She’s now more frequent in telling me when she needs a bum change after doing a wee. The potty she has looks like a toilet. She knows she needs to sit on the potty and knows it’s for wees and poos but never does either on it. I guess what I’m asking for is, any general advice or top tips for potty training ready for nursery?? Thank you :) P.s: a lot of people have already recommended just leaving her nappy off for a few days which would be great but I’m in a rented house with new carpets everywhere 🥲

2 is quite early so I’d be tempted to wait until she can tell you she needs a wee before you go nappy free if you’re worried about carpets etc. but in the meantime you can see how in tune with her body she is by taking her every hour and seeing if she can do a wee. Some people will give more drinks during this stage so they get more used to the feeling of a full bladder and the relief of having a wee. But sometimes when they’re ready they will just be able to use to the toilet (with a reducer seat or a step and they hold the seat) and skip the potty entirely - I know a couple of kids the same age as my son who did this but closer to 3-3.5. When they’re really ready there’s not really any training involved as they will feel they need to go and either tell you or just take themself off to the potty/toilet. We tried a couple of times with my eldest but it wasn’t until he was 3 that he told us he didn’t want to wear nappies anymore and started using the toilet in the day.

@Sarah this is really helpful thank you 😁 it’s good to know I’m not late on the potty training train! Hahaha

Not late at all. There will be kids who nail at 2 but it’s completely normal for them not to be ready until they’re 3-4 in some cases even later. Girls do tend to be better and faster at it from the snapshot I’ve had of my own experience and close friends.

My eldest was 4 when he day time toilet trained and 6/7 for night time, Jakob is absolutely nowhere near either- not late at all!

Absolutely nowhere near here either. I don’t think she even realises when she’s doing a wee as we had a tantrum mid nappy change last week and she ran off, started colouring and just did a wee and didn’t even flinch 😂

@Charlie 😂❤️ Jakob will sometimes do a wee whilst waiting to get in the bath, and just stare at it in shock like 'wtf is that!'

My little one has done two pees on the potty so we got ready to go full steam ahead with it but since then he’s pissed and shat on our rug so now we’re reconsidering 🤣🤣 I do think you should do the keeping nappies off trick, have you considered getting a large waterproof Mat to go on the carpets? I know it’s not aesthetically pleasing but protects the carpet and allows your LO to progress with training? My sister suggested for me with my LO is to go fully ahead with it and keep nappies on when out and about and apparently when he wets himself he will realise he doesn’t like the feeling and be more inclined to go potty even when out and about (only if they’re ready though, not a good tactic if they aren’t nearly ready), and just bring lots of change of clothes and pants to change them into after accidents. She has 4 kids so I trust her but equally it’s so cold now so don’t want to put my LO through that in this weather so I’m not going to do that also I don’t think he’s fully ready

@Mel s oh Taliah will hold that one in and then the second her feet touch the water in the bath she stands up and does a wee 🤦🏻‍♀️
