Pineapple fruit - Miscarriage

Hi everyone,

First time mom here! in my culture I’ve heard that eating pineapple during pregnancy often cause miscarriage.

I’m currently on week 15 and I was wondering is it really true? Or is it just a myth?

Can I eat some slices? Anyone had any experience with pineapple during their pregnancy? Have you eaten this fruit during your pregnancy, and were you still able to have a normal pregnancy until your delivery date?

Let me know please.

Kurah,

I had crazy pineapple cravings throughout 1st and 2nd trimester and ate so much of it. No issues.

There’s no evidence out there that proves pineapple causes miscarriages. Enjoy!

I ate tons of it with both pregnancies I’m Hawaiian lol so can’t put it down … I craved it so it’s all your preference ask your ob maybe they can advise how much but towards the end it is said to cause labor

Avatar

Midwives told me it was good at bringing on labour in later stages. They said you can have it but not in great mass. I ate it most days x

Avatar

You’d have to literally eat an entire pineapple to induce labor. I’ve never heard anything about avoiding pineapple. The only fruit I’ve heard you should avoid is unripe papaya.

Avatar

I’ve had pineapple who way through mine. Very beginning I had a lot. I’ve only heard it can induce labour so I was just careful how much i consumed. I’m 36 weeks now and I have a bit the other day and nothing happened xx

Avatar

If this were to be any kind of true then you’d need to eat like 10 pineapples for it to do anything. Same with all the other random foods people say don’t eat. You’d need a lot to do anything. They also say that pineapple can help induce labor. Soo when I’m full term I totally want to believe that lol. But yes you can totally eat some.

Avatar

oh yeah i’ve heard this too about the papaya. Do you know why?

Myth

Avatar

I’ve never heard of that at all. I’ve been juicing pineapples and drinking a glass of that almost daily my whole first trimester with this one. I have heard to avoid aloe and aloe juice though.

Avatar

Myth 100% don’t know who wants to eat so much pineapple especially the feeling on the tongue of it eating you back 😂

Avatar

It’s the core of the pineapple that can induce labour in large amounts, not the flesh you’d have to choose or enjoy that part to force enough down you to do anything 🤣 had a pineapple craving myself for months so bad to check

There is no evidence that eating pineapple can induce labour or bring on a miscarriage - please eat as much if it as you fancy!

Avatar

You’d have to eat about 18 pineapples including the core to induce labour (this is what I was told by my antenatal class leader).

It’s safe to eat!

Avatar

I ate quite a bit of fruit during my pregnancy especially pineapple and my pregnancy was very normal and my son came out fine at 38weeks

Avatar

Yeah nah there's a myth around how it could induce labour. One of those things to try if you are 40plus weeks and getting desperate to evict, but nothing to do with causing miscarriage.

Avatar

I've been told by my sister that apparently pineapple is like something that could induce labour? I think that's what she said anyway, she said about not having pure pineapple juice or to eat pineapple, I've had multivitamin drinks that have a little bit of pineapple though but mostly other fruits and I've been fine, I'm 32 weeks and 5 days pregnant and I've had this drink a few times, she's not a midwife or anything but she's had 2 kids of her own so I'm guessing it's what she was told when she had her kids xx

Avatar

I had lots of fruit in pregnancy this being one them 🩷

Avatar

I ate lots of pineapple and cheese on sticks during my pregnancy 🤣 especially during the summer months and it was the only thing I could stomach when I had nausea 😊 x

Avatar

I have lots of pineapple and now 20 weeks and baby and I are healthy 😊

Avatar

All I ate for the first 15 weeks due to horrendous morning sickness was fruit, including large amounts of pineapple, baby is absolutely fine. In fact I’m now term (40+5) and ate almost a whole pineapple the other day because I’m back to really craving fruit. And guess what, baby is still tucked up in my tummy refusing to budge 🤣 The whole pineapple thing is just a myth. Eat it and enjoy it! X

Avatar

I had pineapple early in my pregnancy and my sons fines I’m 33 weeks he’s very active and I’m just ready to push this boy out lol

Avatar

I know the feeling, I'm 32 weeks and 5 days and I'm ready for him to come out and not kick my bladder all the time haha 🤣

Avatar

It’s about the compounds found in those fruits. They might cause uterine contractions. But I’m guessing you would have to have a lot of it

Avatar

From what I know it can bring on labour in the late stages. But you’d still need to eat like 4 pineapples for it to work!

Avatar

I ate pineapple during pregnancy. Had no issues. Was also drinking pineapple juice.

I didn't know this was a thing. Everything in moderation is the key.
Only things I avoided was soft cheese, pate, red meat and salami x

Avatar

omg I’ll go to the bathroom and 5 min later feel like I gotta go again cause he’s all on my bladder 😂 I’m like damn kid move your ass 😂😂😂😂

Avatar

I had pineapple during first trimester to help with nausea and I'm now 25 weeks with baby looking healthy. I also had a virgin pina colada the other week at a restaurant which I think has pineapple juice.

Avatar

10000% a myth. I thought the same so avoided it until I hit third trimester and that’s when I had huge cravings for it, ate loads of it in my third trimester and all was good 😂 it’s actually really good for you with the high vitamin C levels! It’s just the core they say to avoid but who eats the core anyways🤣

Avatar

I ate some pineapple when I was pregnant just not too much because it’s acidic and burns my tongue a little 😂 but a bit here and there can’t hurt! I think it means excessive amounts probably but excessive amounts of most things isn’t great so I wouldn’t worry just don’t have it all the time 😁
You start off being paranoid about a lot of old wives tales but as time goes on you just eat fairly normal again 😁

Avatar

I cannot eat pineapple 🍍 I had a little bit and throw up every where 🙈

Avatar

I ate a ton of pineapple , delivered a healthy baby girl.

Avatar

My first pregancy, i started craving pineapple around 32 weeks. I ate it everyday. I still went to 41 + 5 🤣🫠. Now at 12 weeks in my second pregancy, I still eat pineapple everyday so I'm praying that's just an old wives tale

Avatar

It’s a myth x

Avatar

You’d have to eat ALOT. A little won’t hurt.

Avatar

Eat the pineapples girl. Nothing is gonna happen. Im almost 14 weeks and been eating pineapples since the start of my pregnancy. I also ate them with my previous pregnancy. Its a myth.

Avatar

it’s also a superstition for my culture as well! once my mom saw pineapple in the fridge and ate the whole thing at once because she thought i was eating it but it was actually my husbands😭😭

Avatar

Ah ah glad to hear you could enjoy eating it. I was skeptical about eating it, but thanks for letting me know. Imma start having sone slices now.

Avatar

Oh ok. I thought any amount could cause it. Thanks for letting me know.

Avatar

Thank you so much ladies for all your feedback. I feel so relieved 🩷🩷

Avatar

I ate so much pineapple cuz i had cravings for it with my second. I carried him full term

Avatar

I ate pineapple on both pregnancies and was told it was allowed in moderation.

Avatar

I drank loads of pineapple juice and I was okay all the way through my pregnancy

Avatar

I didn't even know this was a thing. I ate loads of fruit during pregnancy including pineapple and was absolutely fine

Avatar

I ate sooooooooo much pineapple during my pregnancy because of my cravings 😩 I never even heard about this at the time but I now have a healthy 15 month old 🤍
