Advice on positioning to prevent head flattening

Hi, I’m looking for some advice, my little girl is 10 weeks old and iv noticed slight Mis-shaping of her forehead and slight flattening to the right side of the back of her head, I am trying to prompt tummy time but she gets extremely distressed and I have tried repositioning her head in her bed but she gets distressed and puts it back in to her usual position (which is likely causing the issue)

Any advise would be very welcome

Maybe I’m dense but I don’t see anything wrong here or any flattening. Her head shape looks a lot like my sons who the GP/ HV have described as ‘such a lovely head shape’ 😂

on the right side of her forehead it slightly more sticking out than the left but it’s nothing major at all hence why you may not be able to see it very well. I’m unsure if it’s her positioning when lay down or if it’s just her skull settling slower on that side she is still so young 🙈 x

Don’t think to much into it try a slopped chair that eases the pressure on the back of the head or a curtain side also a sling helps instead of having them lay down all the time. My little girl is 14 weeks she loves being propped up on the sofa now she’s started to hold her head up x

i wouldn’t worry if the pediatrician doesn’t. but look up repositioning for torticollis and plagiocephaly that should help

I’d talk to the pediatrician and possibly ask for a PT referral if you want to be extra cautious. I was concerned about my baby preferring to always have her head turned 1 way so I talked to a PT friend I have and she recommended using a Tortle hat during sleep. You put the cushion on the side your baby wants to turn her head to make her sleep facing up or with head turned to opposite side. You don’t want to use it for more than a few weeks though otherwise you can cause the same issue to then happen on the opposite side.

I’d be careful about this. All the safe sleeping advice says not to put them to sleep with a hat on, elevates the risk of sids. I wouldn’t take that chance tbh.

Tortle adheres to the recommendations of the AAP for safe sleep. But I would agree that you’d want to take into account room temperature and I’d be wary of using it if baby’s sleep space is on the warmer side. It is a pretty thin/stretchy material, it’s not anything like a knitted hat

This is such a great idea I have tried it with my little girl today and she’s stayed on her tummy for much longer than usual thank you so much
