Cannula

Bit of a weird one, but I have a huge fear of cannula at the hospital! I have had to have them a couple times and it just makes me feel super ill and I can’t concentrate on anything else.
Do I need one in while in labour? I plan on having as natural of a birth as possible just with gas and air but know it doesn’t always go to plan but does anyone know if it’s possible for me to not have one unless absolutely necessary?

I had to have one in during labour and i didn’t even notice it going in. I had no pain relief unfortunately 😂 so i didn’t notice it was in. Not everyone needs one so i wouldn’t stress yourself out over it x

I have same issue with cannula. When I was in labour I had high blood pressure and nurse wanted to put cannula to start medicine but I asked if I can instead have pill rather than cannula which she agreed after discussing it with doctors I guess. Eventually I did have to get cannula for syntocinon to strengthen my contraction. You can always check with them if it’s absolutely necessary and what are the risks involved etc.

I was lucky didn't require anything during labour so didn't have to face my fears of a cannula but was offered gas and air which I didn't use. Hope you don't need one unless absolutely necessary, 🥰
