CPS *trigger warning* violence

Hi everyone, my teenage sister lives with my mother growing up my mother was an alcoholic and abusive and still is. To make a long story short our mother got drunk and was chasing her around the house with a knife and she ran out of the house and came to my house and I took her to the police station. The police did not arrest my mother. Instead cps came to my sisters school without telling me and told my sister “legally if your mother wants you to go home you have to” what the fuck do I do? Her dad is filing for emergency custody and I still have her home with me & im not backing down without a fight! I need advice, words of encouragement and experiences shared please!!!

I’m not sure where you’re located. Im in BC Canada and I would file an emergency protection order against your mom. That way she will not legally be allowed to be in your sisters presence.CPS could then place your sister into care of a family member (you). She needs to be kept safe.

I'd call and argue with that case worker so hard. That is not how that type of concern should be handled. She should be temporarily removed while an investigation is done. If in the states, you can also reach out Casa. They are child advocates that work with the courts. It's free.

Message me if you want. I'm a social worker and while I don't do cps (I do more aps), I have a good general knowledge of how these things go.

Yes unfortunately this is standard practice for CPS. Just because they’re in government organization doesn’t mean they do things the right way. Unfortunately they don’t need to ask for permission to talk to your child especially at their school. It’s scary but true honestly there’s really nothing you can do at this point other than try to file for emergency temporary custody. In the meantime, given the reasonings you’re stating and the CPS situation.
