Pregnancy friendly medication?

No. Unfortunately I had to give up working when I came off my meds during my trying to conceive journey.

Can I ask what made you feel like you couldn’t carry on with work, how was it?
And how did you explain your colleagues what was happening to you?

I have another non-ADHD related condition that is treated with the same meds which was a consideration. But basically I had real issues with waking up in the morning after years of stimulants helping that process. I became unreliable to getting to work on time. I couldn't concentrate. Had difficulty keeping up with work load due to procrastination. I have been learning strategies to help since I was diagnosed as a teen but it was still so hard with the lack of being able to focus and organise myself and my thoughts. Only when I got to right before a deadline did I get the ADHD hyper focus and clarity of mind that allowed me to bang out a two week project in an evening. But the level of work wasn't as good and I have so many deadlines it wasn't a feasible or sustainable modus of operandi. I just felt too stressed and guilty and over worked trying to compensate. Burned out and figured the mental health toll wasn't helping our journey of trying to conceive.

Oh my god sounds so overwhelming. It’s crazy, no one should ever have to make a choice between conceiving and being functional 😔. I’m so sorry you went through this.
It seems like my pregnancy isn’t evolving well so for the time being I won’t have to deal with such awful dilemma…

Same. My MFM and OB are okay with it if I’m having trouble functioning but risking withdrawals seems too high of a risk for me but losing my job wouldn’t be great either. For me it’s adderall but otherwise, SAME

Vyvanse is safe. I've been on it since May last year, fell pregnant in July, so my psychiatrist directed me to call MotherSafe (free service run by a hospital in Syd, Aus) and they confirmed that its all good. Never any issues for me until today. 29 weeks and baby brain has hit hard! That, mixed with insomnia, I think it's just cancelling out the benefits of the drug. I'm on 40mg and it's like I haven't taken anything at all. Otherwise, not sure how I'd function without it!

haha crazy! Maybe the pregnancy hormones are messing up with the overall distribution of hormones? Who knows maybe if you try stopping you would find out that you don’t need the meds at this moment 😅
Anyway that is really good to know, I had a miscarriage so no more issues with medication but when I’m pregnant again I’ll think of Vyvance, thank you!

Vyvanse is an amphetamine. Few if any drug trials that have tested it with pregnant women so they can say "no known effects". However taking ANY form of amphetamine while pregnant (even medical) is a huge NO NO. One would think that is obvious. Especially as Vyvanse is not to be used in children under the age of 6yrs. It can severely impair baby's brain development and cause addiction issues by it being in the blood that goes to the baby through the placenta. Please speak to medical professionals before you start or stop any medication and/or try to conceive. Good luck mamas 😘

It's taken as a therapeutic dose, starting at 20mg up to 70mg. I'm on 40mg (1 pill a day, 12hr slow release), which is hardly comparable to taking party drugs. Yes it's an amphetamine, but a lot of ADHD meds are. Theres always going to be people who suffer from addiction and take more than they should, but these people are taking like 150mg a day.
If the hospitals in your area have a maternity advise line, definitely give them a call or talk to your doc/midwife. This is just what has worked for me. I did my own research of what I could find as well as reading reddit posts on r/ADHDwomen of other mothers' experiences of going through pregnancy and having three kids etc and them getting to school age with no issues.

From what I understand most studies about amphetamine effects on unborn babies come from the addiction field so they’re made on pregnant women who take a much higher dose than any ADHDer would. Obviously since there is no evidence that there is NO effect on babies of ADHD mums, the principle of caution applies and whenever possible it makes sense to avoid taking any medication.
But it also makes sense to try to avoid horrific withdrawal symptoms and one’s personal/professional life collapsing when a person cannot function without medication. That’s why both your information are right and each case needs to be considered individually with its own trade offs ❤️
