If any of you have border collies that you raised from puppies, when did you start to feel like you weren’t completely losing your mind anymore?? We just got a 4 month old puppy (border collie/Mcnab) and she’s already driving us insane and I know it’s going to get worse as she gets a bit older. At what point will she start to settle? We absolutely adore her but I can’t wait until I’m not pulling my hair out anymore 😂😂 we are prioritizing teaching her how to relax, so maybe that will help? Tell me your success stories!!!

With ours he kinda key word kinda settled when he turned 2 but here we are now and he's 4 now and he's still a lil crack head🤣🤣🤣 UNLESS kids are around. Then he's as gentle and chill as can be unless someone harms said kid then he gets aggressive.

You got literally one of the if not the highest energy herding dogs...you will have a lot of dog energy until the dog is gone 😂
We would board/train BCs and they could take 6-8 hours of straight exercise and still have energy
You need to be consistent with training and for sure see a specialist if you have never owned a dog of this energy level before
Personally this is why you pick a breed that fits your lifestyle to avoid incompatibility (also getting a puppy is just a ton of work as it is)
With consistency and tons of exercise and training you can manage but I have literally worked with dogs over 10 and their energy is still all there as a Bc...so if you aren't prepared for that you really need to be

I train dogs for a living. I train pets and service dogs and even help train police dogs. If you don’t train a border collie while young they usually don’t get better with age. They are top 3 dog I get for “aggression” rehabilitation because they are a working herding dog they need jobs. And they try to herd littles around the house nipping at ankle’s or butts to try to herd them. Consistency and training starting young helps. Just don’t go to a dumb petco trainer. Find a decent trainer in your area.
Message me if you want more advice or questions about the other trainers methods. Happy to help 🫶

Border collies are a working breed they need excessive stimulation and exercise to calm down. Crate train pup asap and look up mental stimulation. At this age he can only be walked for 20 minutes twice a day. 5 minutes per month of age 1-2 times a day is recommended to reduce damage to their growing joints x

this is what I noticed already! She’s still nippy since she’s a baby so she loves going after my toddler but with our 2 month old she immediately settles down until she’s a reasonable distance away from her. It’s so cute

we are totally prepared, I’ve owned higher energy breeds before, this is just my first time owning a border collie. She’s way smarter than I’m used to so it’s taking some adjusting and extra research for sure! Luckily were pretty flexible so we’ve adjusted so far 😂

I didn’t know that! It makes sense, she already heard my 2 year old all over the place. Thank you, I’ll definitely reach out if I have more specific questions!

if the walks are longer but have a lot of nose work, is that still too long? Is it specifically the time spent walking? I’ve never had a dog under a year old before so that part is definitely new!

also we’ve loved the crate. We use it the same way we put our daughters down for naps or if she gets over excited she’s given a few minutes to “settle” then she’s let out again. I’m glad we decided to go with a crate 🙃

that's great! I hope that you all adjust well to the new puppy 😁
Good luck keeping her busy 😊 check into different puzzle feeders as well if you already haven't my dogs always liked them (probably with supervision since she's so smart she will probably figure them out right away 😂)

I wouldn’t be surprised 😭 she essentially house trained us because she was trying to tell us she had to go but we hadn’t learned her cues yet 🤦♀️ good thing she’s patient lol
