Progesterone support (UK)

Hey everyone, I'm just back from a cervical length scan and at 18.4 weeks my cervix is 22mm which I'm gutted about. This is from a previous Lletz...
the consultant said I can have a stitch or take progesterone until 36 weeks. I've opted for the latter for now as seems like a more gentle option.

Has anyone with a similar cervical length had success supplementing with progesterone?

I'm so worried!

My cervix went to 7mm at 24 weeks (was 24mm until then and I’ve also had lletz). They said 24 weeks was too late to put in a stitch as a chance of breaking the waters. I was on progesterone up to 37 weeks and I delivered at 38 weeks. I changed my day to day a lot as well…worked from home full time and spent most of the rest of my pregnancy sitting, minimising standing and walking. Try not to worry but rest as much as you can…does get a bit boring but worth it at the end!

Following as I’m in exactly the same situ, just 2 weeks behind (16+2).

My cervix was only 15mm, I took progesterone until 34 weeks and my LO didn’t arrive until 40+1 😊 xx

this gives me great reassurance! Thank you!

@Steph did you have to do any lifestyle changes like resting or bed rest or did you go about life and work as usual?

no I didn’t, I was cautious about lifting heavy and I didn’t have sex only to be safe but I was told I still could but nothing else no

this is interesting! I had half resigned myself to bed rest but good to know not needed

Hey everyone, just writing an update incase someone comes across this thread in the future!
Currently 21 weeks and my last scan was 22mm with a closed cervix so the plan is to keep taking progesterone and not get a stitch for now.
This was all up in the air last week as I had another measurement from a sonographer at 19mm however the scan this week was by a consultant who said that it's likely last weeks measurement was wrong.
Apparently it's normal to have increased scar tissue after a Lletz which makes it more difficult to measure and sonographers are generally used to scanning babies, so sometimes their measurements can be off.
It's such a stressful journey and I can't stress enough how important it is to advocate and push for yourself. Last week after the incorrect 19mm measurement the doctor was trying to push me into a stitch. I'm so glad I listened to my gut and pushed to be seen by a specialist in the preterm clinic.

I'll be back again with an update in 2 weeks! X

Hi how are you getting on? X

ah I'm sorry for not updating the thread! So I went back 2 weeks after at 24w and my length was stable. It was still 22mm which is shorter than average but it didn't actually go down from the previous measurements. The consultant was confident that my cervix was strong and there was no signs of funnelling etc. we decided to stick to the progesterone plan and not risk an stitch as she didn't think it was necessary and I'm so glad that's the approach we took. I'm now 27w and haven't had any issues or cause for concern! I'm now discharged and will continue taking Cyclogest twice a day until 36w as a precaution! But all good. If you're in the same position, I'd push to get seen by a specialist and get a second opinion and listen to your gut!

Thank you for your reply
Well unfortunately my story is a bit different.
My measurements were -
46mm at 19 weeks with a funnelled cervix.
38mm at 21 weeks. Cervix still funnelling.
Then less than 24hrs later length reduced again to 26mm. [this was 3 days ago]

I had been taking 400mg cyclogest since 19 weeks. It either hasn’t done much or my cervix would have been worse.
They advised I had a stitch the next day.
So Wednesday I had a surgical stitch placed.
Currently at home recovering.
But anxious and worried.

I am so glad you are doing ok. 🙂
I’m hoping I can make it 1 day. / 1 week at a time.

I lost my baby boy last year at 22 weeks. I’m praying it doesn’t happen again. Xx

Can baby mamas be friends?

My son has an older brother from his biodad. Biodad has never had contact with my son. One thing lead to another though and the other child's mother and I got in contact and are planning a meeting for the boys. Biodad has no idea any of this has happened. Biodad also hasnt had contact with the other child in about 2 years. Just thoughts, opinions, anyone been through something similar?
Edit-Thank you all! Have definitely been feeling somewhat weird about it because we never met before but now know it can be a good thing definitely helps. I can't wait for them to meet. My son has been asking for a brother and I can now happily tell him he has one. That just happens to be 13. Im sorry for yall that fight/have issues with the other baby mamas. Sadly some women rather be stuck on the men, when the kid is the one who really matters. They're the ones that end up getting hurt and missing out.

Is it normal to test positive still? (Wouldn't usually do one)

Not the best pic and clearer in person. Is this normal? I've not had any sex since having my LO but I've had strong cravings, sense of smell is strong and my hair still hasnt started to fall out. Im 7 weeks pp so 🤷‍♀️ I wouldnt normally bother testing but with those symptoms that I never really have its like whats going on. Cravings for something very specific too and can only get from KFC now 😩 so its annoying

When did you get a strong positive?

Tested last Friday got a positive faint did a digital said 1-2 weeks which would be about right 4 weeks at the time. Did another this morning still faint…. Slightly worried about it being chemical if it isn’t getting darker. Should I be using all the same type tests?
