We got engaged a few months ago when we found out I was pregnant. It was such a beautiful engagement. Now, I am confused wether I would like to get married before my baby is born and just do it in court for legal purposes or just wait to until I’m fully ready which idk if I ever will be.
Point is I would only be getting married now for the baby.
Do you mamas know the advantages of being married before baby is born, and in case we get separated what would the benefits of being married before be? Hope I’m making sense.

If it's just for the baby, I wouldn't rush.
We got married a few months before I was due because it was important to me that we already have that established and I could sort out all the legal paperwork before my baby was here. We were planning a big thing in a year or two so we just made it a smaller gathering and I'm planning on doing a vow renewal to get all our friends and family to be involved in a few years. Her coming just brought forward our end goal rather than having a wedding for her if that makes sense.

As for advantages, my husband had full capacity to speak for me in an emergency, I don't need to do name changes later, and it's easier to deal with child related stuff with her dad as we all have the same name. Not saying a name change is required but if you're looking to do it it does make life infinitely easier

I would think that you should do it when you want to do it, rather than when you feel you should.
Don’t mean to cast a shadow over your wedding plans - but before you’ve done it, are you already having concerns about separation in the back of your mind? Or are you just wanting to cover all bases in your question?
If it’s the former - then don’t rush, and give it serious thought, even consult a relationship counsellor, before making a commitment such as marriage. If it’s the latter, then fair enough.
it’s also important to me that we have everything stablished before baby is born but still undecided. Thank you for your feedback ❤️

I think for parenting the only difference is that if you are married only one of you need to register the birth. Otherwise you both need to go to the office.
My SIL has 2 children and a great relationship with her fiancé.
My hubby and I struggle a bit more.
Separating from engaged is obviously horrible but no lawyers.
Divorce is super expensive even if you try to avoid lawyers.
His rights and responsibilities as a parent are the same either way.
trying to cover all bases. Not looking to divorce but thinking about all possibilities. It’s my first kid, I am happy but at the same time scared so trying to see from a legal stand point what would happen if I am or not married. I come from a single mother who did her best but she struggled big time. My sister is also a single mother and struggled at the beginning. I believe all of this plays a big role.
ok this makes sense! Thank you so much ❤️

Of course. And I promise you, I’m not being critical. Just saying, don’t rush until you’re sure.
Sounds like you’re doing whatever you choose to do with your eyes wide open 💕

Me and my partner aren't married, we are getting married when baby is 11 months. I'm really excited to have her at the wedding. I don't know where in the world you are but in the UK if you aren't married dad has no legal rights to make decisions about baby until his name is on the birth certificate. We registered her birth 4 days after birth to minimise this, but if there was in issue with you in child birth he wouldn't have any decision making rights for the baby if not married.
Make sure you have life insurance.
I would say that after the baby came my priorities have completely changed. I had all these plans for my wedding and now they matter less to me. I am looking forward to the marriage but all the other stuff, (flowers etc) mean alot less to me. Luckily we had the wedding already booked prior to baby coming, otherwise I'm not sure I would have ever got round to booking it!
thank you mama 🤍
yep! I am also thinking that my priorities will also change and perhaps I won’t be so focus on planing a full on wedding.
Lots to think about. Thank you mama 🤍
this was what I was looking for. Thank you Laura! Yes, he is the head of household, I am not working and might not work when baby arrives. 🙏🏽
