CMPA?

My little boy is 14 weeks old and really suffering with excema. We tried dairy free formula when he was smaller and it made his symptoms worse so went back to a lactose free formula which he seems fine on. His symptoms are now awful so have been back on dairy free for around 4/5 days. How long does it take for symptoms to ease off because his poor skin is keeping him up at night, he also now has very watery poo’s which he didn’t have before changing to dairy free so I’m a bit lost! 🤦🏻‍♀️ have tried lots of different creams and nothing seems to help. We do oat baths etc I just feel so bad for my baby 😪 the eczema is all over his face, back and arms and now forming on his legs too..

I didn't go straight to formula I cut out dairy first as I was breastfeeding but it did take a while, about 6 weeks, if it's cows milk allergy that is! My little girls skin was bad too. We used Metanium on her bum for nappy rash and just kept her in light loose clothing and plain baths. X

Try the milk allimentum ! My son is allergic to milk & eggs and that milk worked wonders !!

If you’re still breastfeeding him you need to cut off everything dairy or lactose unfortunately for you …

Take him to hospital they will prescribe milk for him hun

Which formula was the diary free one you tried? Some are hydrolysed which still isn’t enough for little ones with a more severe allergy. You may need an amino acid based one like Neocate.
I’d be surprised if little one has lactose intolerance, it’s extremely extremely rare.

Looks like cmpa to me x

My son had this, we went on allumentum similac milk, prescribed by drs and it worked wonders! We also used dermal 500 lotion as a wash in the bath and got prescribed something called skinnies, which is basically a baby grown but opens at the bum, it’s designed to cover them in their cream and not get absorbed by any clothes, it stays on the skin. My son was red raw with eczema and it went after 1 wash of dermal and 1 night of wearing skinnies x

My LO’s paediatrician/allergologist recommend to cut out Cow Milk and its derivatives. So all food that contains any traces of milk had to go. She had to take antihistamines for a while whilst the skin cleared up.
She also recommended to keep the skin as hydrated as possible. We’ve been using CerVe smoothing cream (the blue one) and it’s honestly amazing. We have changed laundry detergent as well and have kept baths to a maximum of 10 minutes. No sponge as the skin barrier gets affected. Gently pat dry.
Hope this helps. Small changes have helped our LO improve massively. :)

It can take at the very least 4 weeks for them to show improvements on hypoallergenic (EHF) formula. Sorry to say it's not an instant fix or even a somewhat soonish fix. You should be on it under supervision of a GP so they can make sure you're on the best possible milk. E.g. if he doesn't improve on the EHF whey, they can trial the EHF casein or go up to amino acid, etc.

This looks very similar to my son, it took nearly 8 weeks to clear after being put on a CMPA milk. Like you’re his poo became really water based and smelt so bad I was convinced it wasn’t working. But just keep going and hopefully it will. The only thing I found soothed his face (which felt like sandpaper)was religiously applying coconut oil at every nappy change.
All the other creams didn’t help at all, eventually we were put on a 1% steroid cream which was a miracle!

Thanks so much for all your advise ladies! Hes on the aptamil CMA formula prescribed the the dietitian at the hospital and we went to the GP this morning who has given us 2 creams and a bath ointment to help with his skin. Spoke to the hospital again who have said to stick with this formula for a minimum of 2 months so we can either confirm or rule out CMPA, if no improvement in 2 months she will switch to an amino acid formula instead. Hoping this helps asap. Will definitely look into all your suggestions 🤍

we have been given the same steroid cream today a really mild one to try as I was really reluctant to use steroids! But no matter what cream we’ve tried nothing helps. Have you noticed any problems when not using the steroid cream eg withdrawals? That was my main worry xx

Thankyou! I’ll get rid of the sponge as I didn’t realise this, it’s super soft but totally makes sense your advice xx

googling skinnies asap! 🫶🏼

This is what my little boy looked like. We are on SMA Alfamino and it’s all cleared up now and he is a happy boy!

Avatar

hey sorry just seen this- absolutely no effects at all. He was actually much happier. Have you seen any improvement yet? 🙏🏻

Avatar

Just worth me saying we also ended up on SMA Alfamino too, so maybe just ask from that from the get go?

Avatar

Thankyou! His face has almost completely cleared using the creams from the doctor so I have stopped the steroid there so his skin isn’t affected too much. Still using on his body which seems to have actually got worse. Thinking the amino acid formula will be the next option 🤞🏼 xx
