Stuck in a 1 bed

Not really asking just frustrated.

We are currently stuck in a 1 bed flat, there is me my partner and my baby (my partner works away a lot). I am really struggling to find somewhere bigger within our budget. I have been looking for well over a year now and am really stuck on what to do. This flat really isn’t big enough for us. The rent everywhere we look is roughly £800 and that just isn’t doable on a part time wage (once I go back) and the council we are low priority as they don’t see children as people until they are at least 1 and they would say the child is to be in with us until 5.

Anyone experienced similar 😩

I know you weren’t asking but is relocating an option? Even to a close by town or something with another council, the fact you aren’t priority until the baby is 1 is shocking. In my town you’re a priority as soon as the baby is born

I think this is something we’re going to look into, we aren’t really happy in the area anyway as there is lots of crime and generally not a place I want my children growing up. A child after 1 is only classed as half a person so they will allow upto 3 people in a 1 bed meaning me my partner and two children. We barely have room for our stuff and hers! Never mind with hobbies. My partner likes to fish but as we share a garden with upstairs we aren’t allowed a shed to keep things I. It’s ridiculous

You can apply for universal credit to top you up as you would also qualify for the local housing costs
