Had my little girl Charlottes 1 year health visitor review today. She has always been a big baby and today was still above the 99.6th percentile. Health visitor made me feel awful like it’s my fault and I have been so upset about it. Charlotte has been down to 2 bottles of milk a day for a few months now and the HV wants me to cut out the morning bottle now aswel. Just wondering has anyone been in a similar situation as I was made to feel like my baby was overweight and she was almost suggesting she needed to go on a diet! Literally a 1 year and she’s not walking yet, I think she’s very close though. I know once she gets walking she is going to be burning off all that energy anyway!
Thanks in advance for similar stories or advice 😊

Was her height a similar percentile?

Her height is 75th percentile x

You know your baby more than a health visitor does they only see half an hour up to an hour of their life. If your little one is happy and content keeping doing what your doing.

I agree that once she’s walking she’ll slim down and I hate when people make these comments because babies are growing and need all of that to keep growing. I feel like HV scare you so much about everything and don’t always give the best advice in my experience. I was told to cut out a morning bottle too and it made my whole day a nightmare, my baby screamed and screamed and wasn’t ready to give it up so I ignored the advice (he was on 3 bottles). Funnily enough, 2 weeks late he dropping his morning nap bottle and now has one when he wakes up and goes to bed. They put too much pressure on you and I say do it when she’s ready and once she’s more active she’ll be fine x

She will slim once walking, my LG did! Dont drop the milk xx

Thanks everyone 😊 you have all made me feel better! Do all your babies still get a bottle in the morning? X

My little one still gets a bottle in the morning and before bed. I follow what little one wants, keeps him happy keeps me happy

She’ll “slim down” when she starts walking at others have said. Ours was more “chubby” up until she did. She’s on 95th percentile I reckon but quite tall. Walks all day, now climbs everywhere so spends her energy well. Also you know how you feed your little one & it’s not a couple bottles of formula for a 1 year old that will get them too big. And to finish with, like others have said HVs scare people out with their expectations of where we should all be. We’ve been recommended to cut down milk. For now our girl needs 2 8oz bottles. We’re working hard on cutting it down but the odd day we do more, and that’s the process for us. The ones we saw for the review were actually nice, which I wasn’t expecting as I’d had an HV who was trying to force me to keep breastfeeding when clearly I knew it wasn’t working for me. Trust yourself & I’d suggest to get a 2nd advice from a doctor maybe if you feel like that’s an option and put the HV’s comments into perspective with that ?

My boy is a giant, and has always been 98th percentile, got our review next week I can’t wait for her to try telling me he’s too big, I’m sorry he doesn’t fit in well with your statistics 😡
Don’t worry. You know in your gut if you’re happy with baby’s size. You DO know best. X

My daughter is nearly 11 months old and some days still has 4 bottles a day.
Take what they say with a pinch of salt. You’re doing nothing wrong, your baby is happy, healthy and growing, and she will let you know when she’s ready to drop the bottle, you’re doing a great job 😊

she was at the GP not so long ago for her vaccines and they didn’t comment at all on her weight! They were just saying how cute she was lol, I do find the HV very strict though x

Thank you everyone 😊 I’m going to continue giving the morning bottle until she wants it! It’s just handy aswell Because some mornings she will wake between 5-6 and if I give her a bottle she gets a little more sleep. The HV was suggesting if she wakes between 5-6 and won’t go to sleep with me trying to settle her without a bottle that I should just get up and give her breakfast at that time 😂

My boy has 1 bottle during his day at nursery, 1 before bed and 2 overnight. That's what he wants so that's what I'll give him x

My daughter was the exact same, 99.6th percentile for weight & 75th for height. She’s breastfed on demand so slightly different but my HV always praises me for keeping her chunky so it’s absolutely nothing to be concerned about!! My little girl started walking at 10 months and she’s since dropped 3.5lb and it’s all evened itself out so she’s now on the 91st percentile. I’m so sorry they’ve made you doubt yourself, trust your instincts and carry on giving her milk in the morning if that’s what you think is best 🥰 xx

They told me at my son’s review he was getting a bit on the chunky side I just ignored it because I know he will be running around soon. It also only takes for them to get I’ll be off their food and then at least we don’t have to worry as much about their weight. My older son is skin and bone and I worry every time he goes off food he will be even skinnier x
